ARCHIVED FORUM -- March 2012 to February 2022READ ONLY FORUM
This is the second Archived Forum which was active between 1st March 2012 and 23rd February 2022
I was recently thinking of buying a non B&O streaming device for playing Hi-Res music.
However, when reading this thread http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/10944.aspx?PageIndex=2 I started to realise that the HomeMedia player in my V1 actually is a very powerful device!
I spend the week-end enjoying Agnes Obel in Hi-res StudioMaster (24bit / 192kHz) playing via Homemedia to the Beolab 9's. Really great!
Nevertheless, it would be even better if the Homemedia User Interface could be further enhanced. Here is my wishlist for enhanced Homemedia Functionality.
- NetRadio (maybe in the next software release?)
- A good search function (ideally, a search function which goes across my music libraries on the NAS, and the music services I am using (Spotify, Deezer, ...)
- Ability to make Playlists
- And controlling all of the above not only via the TV screen, but also in a convenient App (I admit this is inspired by my Sonos User interface )
Curious what other Beoworlders will add!
BeoNut since '75
.
Present: BL90, Core, BL6000, CD7000, Beogram 7000, Essence Remote.
Past: BL1, BL2, BL8000, BS9000, BL5, BC2, BS5, BV5, BV4-50, Beosystem 3, BL3, DVD1, Beoremote 4, Moment.
seethroughyou:Do the recent smart Beovisions not have Netradio?
Griebel:A good search tool! It's just a pain to browse through your media library when you have several Ks of titles/albums Agree also that there is much room to improve the graphical interface, too simple and not very informative.

this is heavely dependent on your music server. Twonky as well as JRiver (esspecial the second) can be tweaked to have good search options.
Just a usb connection gives just basic options
jans:Here's one more, looking a bit further into the future. It would be great to see Homemedia develop into a cornerstone of a (wireless) NL based multiroom set-up, so that I can use it in my Living room to activate a B&O device (essence-like) in my kitchen playing the same music (party mode) or a different piece of music. Or is this something we can expect from the new 'Moment'? Anyhow, when going for multiroom, B&O will have to sort out how to synchronize across devices, as the Bsys 4 AV engine induces a small time lag compared to regular audio streamers. Just my 5 cents when dreaming about my future B&O set-up
wol would be nice;
to start the sleeping dlna server -
and let the server fall back in sleep mode, if for example you switch to tv mode.
Hi all,
I am just resurrecting this thread in the anticipation and hope we can get some software updates for the new Avant television series to enhance the user experience since the TV's have been out nearly one year.
I currently run a Synology NAS where all my media is stored and use the Homemedia function on the Avant TV via Cat6 cable. In general in find Homemedia runs fairly well but as suggested 6months ago, could B&O please release an update for some improvements/tweaks.
The area I would like adjustments is an increase in the amount of file formats it supports, in particular video Codecs that the Homemedia can accept and play. For example; whenever I try to play some TV shows (or the odd movie) that happens to be in an AVI format, it causes the program to crash/freeze. The files do not appear in the menu either.
What it currently supports (from your website)
What I would like it to support
I can use Plex but I find that there are too many bugs as I have to run it through the Apple TV and the Trailers app. It is also very slow. using the Homemedia setup allows everything to run smoother and slightly faster.
As mentioned in previous posts, if the Homemedia interface was enhanced, to represent something similar to Plex or Apple TV it would be incredible!
Look forward to hearing back from those in the know or any B&O representatives.
Thank you

Good evening,
Is EXFAT file format now supported for USB sticks or hard disks? This allows for files of size greater than 4GB. If no, this should be added.
Also, for the next Avant (Mk II), support for UHD in photos and videos (including the addition of necessary hardware for H. 265 decoding). Then, the new Avant will be a truly finished product.
Regards,
Jean

Not a Homemedia functionallity, but I do agree with elephant on 65incher. <3
Netflix app.
(Geek alert for the last one): set of cool UHD screensavers like equilizer bars etc etc when music is playing. *bagonhead*
As I see it you a talking about a next tv 😉
MM
There is a tv - and there is a BV
I also agree with elephant. 65 inch screen for Avant.
Love this thread. Since I don't have a dedicated music system, I've been using HomeMedia for music listening exclusively.
A better search function (even though it is dependent on the server), and Net Radio (even though it could be in a separate source) would be great.
Twonky has the "INDEX" option, which sorts the media in three letter increments (ABC, DEF, etc), but that's still not convenient enough.
As I've mentioned in a previous thread, NetRadio (software functionality) being sequestered to the Avant as a purely marketing decision seems uncharacteristic.
Yeah I also gave up on Plex after a while, also I found it would drop the feed and in general refuse to play on BV11 and to work on WD LiveTV devices plugged into older Beovisions.
Now I have Emby (http://emby.media/) which seems to work no problemo with Homemedia on BV11, and now flawlessley on my older BVs now running through Philips media players attached to them. (http://www.philips.co.nz/c-p/HMP5000_79/hd-media-player)
From what I have seen so far, the new Avant update (4th May 2015) hasn't assisted in areas that we have previously written about in this thread.
If I try to play an AVI or MP3 video file, it still causes the Homemedia application to freeze and the only solution I have is to turn off and then back on the television. Surely this can be corrected in an update patch?
Hopefully we can all receive more details on what type of bugs/issues this current update has corrected.
I've just switched on my Television this morning to see an update (17th June 2015) for the Avant. A quick read reveals that there are a couple of updates, one including
"The HbbTV function of your TV now supports MPEG-DASH streaming"
I therefore ran a quick test on some of my AVI files which I previously could not play on through my Homemedia (caused the TV to freeze) and NOW they work. I am very pleased!! Thank you B&O
