I apologize if this has been discussed before.
I love the look of the Beolab 18 speakers, but I know that the rest of the speakers in B&O's range with acoustic lenses are placed specifically so that the acoustic lenses are at a seated listening height (other than the rare pictures of Beolab 3 speakers high up on shelves or on the wall brackets.
This is perfectly intuitive to me, and makes sense (though I freely admit, I'm not an acoustic engineer or anything close). The Beolab 9 / 5 / 3 on floor stands / 12 on the wall or on floor stands, all of their lenses appear to be positioned so they are at a neat seated listening height, and even the BeoVision 9's center lens tilted slightly up when the television is on the motorized stand or even on the easel stand, one can deduce that the sound will be transmitted to the ears at listening height.
The beolab 18 on the other hand, the acoustic lens is much higher than ear level when seated. Has B&O compensated for the height of the acoustic lens on top?
Thanks for your comments!
Sal, put me on the list looking for a serious answer to this question.
I heard them in demo, and I was also confused about the high's. They sounded better when I was standing up.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
I raised this very point on the BL18 launch thread. I could understand they would be OK if you were sat far enough away, within the 30Deg or so "vertical fanout angle" but I was concerned about what would happen if you were sat close, as rears for example, and below this fanout.
Geoff Martin said it didn't matter.
Ban boring signatures!
As far as I remember, he said that they have been tuned for a normal listening position (which is mostly sitting).
But the owners must know if it makes a difference - so waiting for user experiences....

There is a tv - and there is a BV

Had an interesting experience at my local B1 two weeks ago when two men listened to the BL18's and the 12-3's (on floor stand) while sitting on normal (height) chairs: they preferred the 12-3's. The left the shop to visit a B&W dealer (that they came from to begin with), came back and this some more listening and pointed out that the 12-3's are more balanced, more stage, better bass and a more accurate high end.
Maybe B&O should have paid more respect to David Lewis' view on re-using designs?

I have no experience of the bl18s but really like my bl12.3 s with lens at 140/150 cm in 3 different set ups. In two of the set ups this height was picked by trial and error. The 3rd set up was thereabouts but for rears in a 5/1 tv set up.
My 18's are about 3m away from my listening postiion and I dont have any problem with ALT hight on them, sounds very good to me. I did also listen to the 12-2 and 12-3 as they were another option, but I ended up with going for the 18's. All very subjective when it comes to speakers/sound.
I have a V1 in the set up and that is on a low level tv bench, so therefore the V1 speaker is much lower that the 18's - even in 3.0 mode I dont have a problem with the hight of the ALT's, in fact it sounds great, I had to play witht he settings a bit, but didnt take too much time to get the sound nicely integrated. Plan is to get the V1 on the wall though!
