I am considering adding a sub to my Beovision 8-40 setup. I currently have two BL8000 as fron and a pair of BL4500 as rear.

I have seen the new S8 and it looks like an excellent buy, however for around the same price I can bet a Beolab 11 or a Beolab 2. Which is considered the better subwoofer? Or is pricing for these second hand units too high in regard to the newly released S8?

Hi

Choose the s8, you won't regret it unless you always want more bass. It is enough powerfull and efficient for every use (stereo and surround).

The beolab 11 is not powerfull enough and the beolab 2 is too boom boom.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

I' m not an expert on the subject but I'd say the options are quiet different. The 11 and the 2 would be an extension to your current setup where the s8 would either replace front or back speakers. Or am i missing anything?

BeoVision 11-55, BeoLab 8000, BeoRemote One BT, AppleTV 4, 2x BeoPlay A2, BeoPlay A1

He does not have to use the two satellites. From the question I think he is purely after a sub-woofer.

Of course, depending on his source BV, he able to set up a speaker group that defines a 7.1 setup with the satellites on the sides.

I plan in the case of the S8 not to use the satallites as I belive my BV-8 does not support 7.1 (?)

I have the bv11-55 and use a BL11 as sub for a few months. It helped a bit for movies but otherwise it was really hard to hear any difference with or without.

A few weeks ago I got a good deal on the BL14 sub (which is the same as S8 but in white as far as I can see) and it rocks! You can really feel it and I think it is great! I've even had to lower the level a couple of dB to make it not rumble our entire department.

I recommend using the new Godzilla blu-ray as demo disc - when they finally fight in the end. Wow. Just wow.
