Hi everybody,
I am currently using a Beolab 9 connected to a Sonos system with a cable line-out to Powerlink, with the setting on the BL9 on line in. All works great, the speakers switch on automatically, volume control works from my Sonos.
Now I want to upgrade to Beolab 5. Does the same solution work here? Can I use the same cables or do I need to make any changes?
Thanks,
andii
You will need an interconnecting link cable too, speak to Steve @ Sounds heavenly.
Thanks for the fast reply. I am sure this setup is superior to the one I currently have. But does it mean mine won`t work at all and I do need the remote? The beauty about my current setup is that everything is controlled through the Sonos.
You will need the beo4 to turn them on in option 1.
If you don't like it I suppose you could leave them on, I think they draw something like 1 watt in idle.
Thank you for the help, I bought the cable from Steve and a Beo4. All is working perfectly. Love the sound.
I am in a similar situation. I currently have Beolab 5s connected to an MX7000 television using Powerlink. I also wish to connect a Sonos system (Wyred 4 Sound 24bit/96kHz modded unit) to the Beolab 5s using tthe Digital coax connection.
Is it possible to have a B&O television, and non-B&O audio connected at the same time?
What cables do I need?
What option do I set the speakers to so that both B&O and non-B&O equipment will work?
thanks
Adam
==> No! If you are using the Options 1 or 4 the Powerlink is turned of and you have to switch on the Speakes with the Beo4
==> Option 1 or 4 - means switch on the speakers with LINK - RADIO (Option 4 - if you have an other B&O Radio Source) or RADIO (Option 1)
@all: The Speakers have a fantastic DAC - if possible please use the Digital In. Everything else it's like driving a Porsche with the handbrake on.
buy a b&o music system. for example a second hand Overture. it will not set you back alot. connect your powerlinks here and your spdif from sonos to bl5. When you select the cd source on you music system the spdif signal from your sonos is preferred by your bl5s and you control volume and everything with your beo4. of course you also need to connect tv and music system if you stil want tv audio out on your bl5s.
@kimchr: do you have this setup? I would not recommend a Beosound Ouverture. During listening Music from your Sonos, you have to play a CD, otherwise the Ouverture goes into Standby mode (and the Beolabs are switching off). You can also buy a Beomaster 6500 or Beomaster 7000 without a CD Player and select CD as source. The Beomaster will stay on till you press the standby button on your remote. If you connect an IR eye to the Beomaster you can put them in a cabinet...

yes, i have this setup. i agree, the auto standby is very annoying. I thought it was just my overture that did it. my cd drive doesn't work at all.
I tried a lot of setups (Beomaster 6500 / 7000 worked also great) – at the moment i use the following configuration
- Running the Beolab 5 in Option 4 – switching ON with LINK – RADIO and controlling the volume with the BEO4
- Beocenter 2 is the Audiomaster for the Masterlinkdistribution and the analog out feeds the Beolab 5
- Cambridge DAC Magic Plus acts as digital hub. USB from Mac Mini in - SPDIF out to Beolab 5. Also an ATV is digital connected to DAC.
- Running Linkplayer (not using at the moment) and BM-Link on the Mac Mini. If pressing N-Music on the Beo4 the mac wake’s up and starts playing. If pressing the standby button for longer than 2 seconds, all devices are going on standby (the macs stops playing)
- For browsing the Musiblibrary (Apple-Lossless Format) on the Mac Mini, i use an iPod touch and/or an iPad with the Remote app, which is more flexible than using a Beosound 5 (still not Apple-Lossless compatible – Struer wake up!)
It is a bit a “pressing-a-lot-of-buttons-on-the-Beo4” configuration.
The next big thing will be the new release of Phil’s Linkplayer with the app for iDevices...
Hi Carlito,
I still have the problem of automatic standby of the beocenter 2 when playing sonos via CD mode...
I have the option selected on 0 to be able to play both the sonos via CD or other analog input of the beocenter 2.
With the option 4 selected the BL5 don't play the beocenter 2!! Then only the digitally connected sonos is recognized.
With the option 1 selected the BL5 don't play the sonos!! Then only the beocenter 2 is recognized.
What I am doing wrong?
Option 0 is annoying as sonos only plays when a cd is being played and then the speakers shut down as the cd is ended.
Soundwise of course no complaints on the BL5 sonos combo! It is really - truly incredible.
Thanks for any feedback
Paul

In the Beolab 5 Sonos setup, can a non amped Sonos be used?
With Lab5's you should be able to use the digital output from a non-amplified Sonos Connect rather than line out to give a significant quality improvement over the Sonos DAC. You will need a Sync cable to ensure the volume setting of the speakers are synced together and you will need a B&O remote to control the volume of the Lab5's.
Ban boring signatures!
