Hi,
when you recloth frets in white (or any other light colour) do you spray the "plastic parts" white before you recloth so the black plastic does not shine through?
(I have still to receive the Beolab 3500 I will recloth so I canno test it myself yet, just curious what you do)

Hi Martin, Leslie is probably the one to answer this as he's been on a 'white kick' recently.
I would have thought that it would be recommended and certainly can't do any harm. If you could see the black plastic through the white cloth it would be awful. A good plastic paint spray should do the trick I would have thought. As the speakers would be part dismantled it makes sense to do.

Not so sure... The drivers are black, they are surrounded by black emptiness and probably are in the dark, or black. Spraying the fret supports white might actually accentuate them.
But I will believe anything that somebody who actually tried tells

Very true Mika but I would have thought the less black the better. Yes, you will always be able to see the drivers but they are usually set back a bit from the frets so may not be so noticable - they could possibly also be whitened!. That's why I'm hoping someone like Leslie who I think may have done this can chip in.

No need to spray the parts. Use a heavy enough fabric that you don't see through it. As does B&O on just about any color grill/speaker configuration.

Just checked a pair of white Beolab 4000 frets I have - naturally I cannot see behind the fabric but as the back of the plastic is grey I would assume it is not white at the front.
Does anyone have a fabric to recommend that is thick enough?(I bought white fabric a while back to recloth a pair of Beolab 8000 but was not very satisfied with the result - mainly due to the plastic shining through - so I will give it a try with this first but if I am dissatisfied, I would try to get a thicker one)
A good pair of women's winter stockings always does the trick for me. If you want to spice it up, you can get them with diamonds or small prints that can look good once on. It adds a bit of texture.
Using thick cloth looks horrible on these type of Beolabs.

I painted my Beolab 4000 frets once and judge for yourself. By the way, there are no black speaker hole areas since the metal fret covers the whole area.
