Does it goes at the end and come back to it's resting position? Do the light under the left arm shines on the platter when the carriage is moving?

Wrong servo motor belt (too tight).
Dirt on the threaded shaft and in the carriage bushing.
Dirt on carriage rails.
Bad servo motor control electronics.
Any combination of the above.

When it hovers, move the carriage a few mm by using the << button, then press play again.
If it starts playing the above diagnose is cofirmed.
(This brings the servo opto count to an acceptable number for lowering - else it won't).

When a record is sensed, the carriage leftward speed is lowered by lowering the voltage to the servo motor so
the last 4-5 mm of travle takes place at a slow speed (with less servo motor torque).
This stage is therefore quite sensitive to easy carriage movement.
