Today I played a 45 RPM LP on my Beogram 4002 and it skipped badly over the record. With my questionable eyesight we can’t know for sure, but it appeared that the tonearm was advancing too fast and dragging the stylus across the record.
I removed the MMC20CL cartridge and found some debris, so I cleaned the needle. Back in place no change.
I tried repositioning the tonearm, but nothing changed the pattern, play fine for say 45 second then skip a few grooves, repeat.
I then took this record and played it on both my Beogram 4000 and 8000 and neither had a problem with the record. So it isn’t the record.
Began thinking on how to adjust the tonearm advance (it has been a long time) and decided to try a 33 RPM record and no problem. The Beogram 4002 played the entire record perfectly.
Another 33 RPM record and again perfection.
Any idea why my Beogram 4002 is having a problem with tracking a 45 RPM record, and if so, what do I do about it?
Needless to say I want to wait before adjusting anything for some direction, since 95% of the records I play on this 4002 are 33 RPM and it plays them beautifully.
