I am using a Beo4 to control XBMC on my MacMini. This works reasonably and I have basic functionality.

I believe there are actually four Beo4 keys that I can use (up, down, left, right, play, stop, back). Is this right or are other Beo4 keys in use?

More importantly, I am not too happy with the key mapping. For example, I cannot stop a movie. XBMC allows to change the keymap. However, I will need to know what the keys sent by the PUC are called to do so.

Any help appreciated!!!

I'm using Plex but it's the same.

To bring up the menu during playback, you use the Back button on your Beo4. From there you navigate to the stop button and you click OK. The Apple Remote PUC makes no difference between the PLAY and STOP buttons, they are essentially the same (because the Apple remote does not have a STOP button).

Also you will find that there is no way to bring up the Context menu while browsing your library (the one you use to mark something watched/unwatched for example).. A bit frustrating, but I believe B&O implemented just the basic functionalities of the Apple remote (another example is that it's impossible to keep the left arrow pressed to go back 10 mins. The TV sends only a single keypress to the Mac).

Thanks for the quick reply. This explains and makes sense. I have one issue though, which is different. I cannot bring the menu up when playing. I can only play and pause, but "back" does not bring the menu up. Any idea why this happens and did you map anything to make it run well?

I also use XBMC on a macmini.

As I also was not happy with PUC mapping I added RemoteBuddy to improve key mapping

I will load XBMC later tonight and try. I'm surprised it does not work though, the Plex player is actually a customised branch of XBMC. FYI, I'm using a BV10.

On second thoughts, did you try the OK button on the joystick? I'm only suggesting it because on my Samsung (running XBMC on a Cubox-I) I bring up the in-playback menu with the OK button in the Samsung remote (using HDMI-CEC).

Ok I think I found out.

I installed XBMC Gotham and while the BACK button stops playback getting you back to the menus, you bring up the playback menu by pressing and holding for a few seconds the ok button on the joystick. That works for me, hopefully for you too!

Thanks for your replies. The joystick button does not do anything. However, I realized that most things actually work. For example, the "back" key of XBMC is mapped to a long-press of "back" on my Beo4. It would be better if it could be done with a normal "back" press rather than a "long" press". But I think better like this than not at all.

I am thinking to buy remote buddy. How would this impact XBMC?

RemoteBuddy lets you assign keypresses to individual xbmc actions using a very intuitive interface.

Which beovision do you use?

Which sw version of apple remote PUC do you use?

Thanks for your replies. Flirc does not work with the Beo4.

I have just installed Remote Buddy, but without success. I think I am missing something in setting it up. I have just installed in default configuration (no changes made). If Remote Buddy runs and I start XBMC/Kodi, I can no longer control with the Beo4.

Anyone using it in this combination? Issue may be related to me using Kodi (new name of XBMC)?

Context - I have a BV5 and I had a dealer install a chip with the latest version of the Apple remote PUC available for the BV5. Was quite impressed to see that a chip is needed for the update. But it worked flawless.

Any help how to set up Remote Buddy to work with the Beo4 and XBMC/Kodi is appreciated!

Hi Steve

I remember having had those troubles when I installed my system. Currently I have no access to my system, as I'm on a trip. I'll try to help with some investigations when I'm home next week.

Thanks hfat and all others that have replied.

I have now some basic functionality with remotebuddy since the latest remotebuddy update (fixed fixed XBMC support since the renaming to Kodi).

What I would still love to get your help is to understand how I can figure out what keys are actually supported in remotebuddy. Up, down, right and left are clear, but rest not clear / not working.

Any way i can find out what beo4 button clicks recognizes and under what mapping?

Thanks in advance!!!
