Hi friends,

Can anyone help me get the service tool for Avant and other NL enabled B&O units? A technician was working on my avant through a pc and could save the setup and change things from it over Ethernet and that is really good!

However he was totally unwilling to give me the software or show it to me. If anyone here can help I'm more than happy Big Smile.

I can't be a geek and not have access to the best tools for my things.

Cheers!

There is reason for that they are trained service engineers and that's how they make there living if they give everything away then they could not make a living, sorry of that seems harsh but my friend is a b & o engineer and they do not make a great amount of money from it, the more people have access to this then the less people are willing to pay for the service that people expect from the brand, please bear in mind this is my opinion

And you would loose your warranty as well!

I don't see how I would steal someones job just by using a tool to diagnose and see how my Avant performs, make backups of the settings and fine tune it to my own personal taste. If the TV would break or something else would be wrong - then of course I would have a technician have a look at it.

Having the software out of reach for the clients that are interested is just unnecessary. Imagine not having control of your computers for example.

And - of course you would not loose your warranty. The tool is not there to "fry" your TV, it is made to make it serviceable.

If the service tool is in unqualified hands you can in fact cause damageSurprise

Best leave this to the people that are trained in the field to undertake this sort of work.

I have to dig into the software and manual to know that of course. But as a computer technician I feel quite safe playing with software and hardware. And I asked for the software because it is something that I am interested in. Not because I would try to fix problems.

This has become somewhat an 'academic discussion'.

You won't get it - not legally!

Are you condoning intelectual property theft?  Presumably, this software is the property of B&O hence it is only available to their service engineers.

Dave.

No, I'm asking a question based on an assumption of software ownership.

This is getting ridiculous. I want the service tool and people also want that for their Beo5/6 remotes so they can configure their remotes. It's also an app that B&O won't release. Why all this negative attitude towards me for a simple question? If you don't have it you dont have to bash either.

Not ridiculous, it's just not a commercially available software package, but a proprietary software configuration tool. If you want the benefit of its use, you have to pay for the service tech as well.

As I already said. I want the software just to play around with it and use some features such as save profile. I have already made a few applications myself to speak with the TV so it´s not very strange to be interested in things.

What is strange is that someone from the computer field doesn't understand what means intellectual property.

You are not to blame personnally, it seems that it is an habit in this business.

There should be special course about this in school, really.

Why not apply the same principal to all of the proprietary software from Apple or Google etc and ask for that 'just to play around with'.  I think I know the answer to that one and the valid reasons they will not release it!  A hackers paradise.

Dave.

This is turning into a childish bullying game. I wanted to play with the software and as I said. Many users here use the internal B&O tools for setting up their remotes and so forth, it is often discussed and shared here too.

BeoWorld even offers B&O internal service manuals for most of their products.

We share information about how to service our B&O products in every way. From changing settings to assembly details.

I will not turn this into a belittling conversation so please behave.

There is nothing interesting in the service tool:

-software Update (you can download the SW online)

-enter the sensitivity of the individual drivers (used if you replace a driver the spare comes pre measured withe a dB value).

-if you replace the lcd screen the spare part lcd's serial no is entered and the service tool send the calibration data of the pre-measured service screen.

-handling of the data transfer when the main pcb must be replaced.

-it can activate test pictures and sound.

So it's not something that will allow you to edit the settings in the menus...

Hi Radiomekaniker

I have the feeling that you are quite well informed. Thanks for bringing these little technical information that make the differences and we are lacking definetely sometimes.

Hi Radiomekaniker!

Finally someone who is helpful instead of just demeaning! Im very happy to have heard about the uses of the software tool. I was interested in how it could be used and now I know, was not trying to fix anything :-).

It´s so nice that B&O actually stores calibration data of replacement speakers and panels so they will perform as good as the part they replaced.

I was not expecting much more, perhaps the possibility to change the settings from the app (that way I could have run it on my server and controlled my avant from a remote desktop connection). Being able to save the settings is also a feature I would like to have on my Avant (for example when changing speakers or settings and wanting to revert).

Have a nice evening and thanks for taking the time to explain the software for me!
