I like that the logo or name of B&O is discreet

This is what I mean.  Just something which took me 5 minutes in photoshop, so sorry if it looks a bit rough..

It doesn't detract from the design, but when someone looks at it - and admires it, they then at least know who made the thing!!!

I couldn’t agree more with you, Lee.

It’s not the first time that we had a tread about branding, logo’s and labeling products.

Only very few people now the brand and company name “Bang & Olufsen” and this is not going to change when the present approach to labelling  products is continued and it has been like this for decades.

How do they think to sell B&O products to people who have never heard of the brand? People don’t buy what they don’t know. It’s as simply as that.

High time for some changes.

The world is changes fast !!!!

I also think that they should show it hanging from a door handle in different rooms throughout a house.  The Bang & Olufsen logo would be upright - which would look good, but people would actually then realise that this could be taken from 'room to room' in addition to 'out and about' - rather than looking like an accessory for people who've been stranded on a desert island for some considerable time **...  LOL

** I am aware this is a fashionable look and am simply revelling in being moderately old and grumpy. Smile

That's exactly how I imagined it should be Lee.  Well done and I hope B&O are watching.

We had friends over from Spain at the weekend and were using the Beolit 12 . Very impressed ,so they asked what make it was and searched out the logo. The same with a friend who babysat recently and was very impressed with the picture on the V1 . Whether they'll buy one , that's another question .

Beo Century ,Beoplay V1, Beocenter 6, Ex-Beolit 12, Beotime , A8. Beolit 15 , Form 2i , Beolab 2000, Beoplay A3.Beosound 1

Classic designer furniture doesn't need branding for people to know what it is. Good architecture is much the same.... and if they don't know and they want to, they will find out.

Has anyone heard one yet ?? Can't wait till mine arrives.(this week?) Hope my beard grows in time. Laughing

I won't grow a beard but I may have to invest in some trendy clothes or some new tats before I take mine out!  Mine should arrive tomorrow I hope, or possibly the day after.

Havent been on the forum for a while now and just realized that this thing was released.

might actually move on to be my first new buy, except for a pair of ex-display A8 earphones. Since I moved to a larger apartment I find my S45.2s struggle to get good sound to the kitchen (would not expect any speaker to do that really Embarrassed ) since placed in the living room.

I find the silver version most appealing, and will try out the sound when the local dealer gets them in by next wednesday.

really generates the want to have feeling, for me at least Yes - thumbs up

B&O are not there currently, maybe if you see a classic piece and care to search the net. But for a portable speaker or any of the current products I would not expect the majority of potential buyers of such device to make the effort.

The mock-up by Lee, is a good alternative. Should we make a group order of stickers Stick out tongue

I wonder if B&O sells (or will sell) the speaker grilles separately? I'd very much like a black A2 with silver grilles.

At the BeoPlay website, it looks like the speaker grilles are detachable... would be nice to mix & match, as I'm not particularly keen on the light brown body of the silver A2. Black body goes with all colors — also presuming there'll be special edition color variations in the future.

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

The black grill would look great with the brown/gold center. More contrast.

I doubt they'll sell it separately, it's probably a complete unit. You might need to buy two and swap the parts yourself.

Mine just arrived... works right out of the box. A workmate just described the sound as crap.... I think it was the song that was playing mostly. Whistle

It won't be replacing your Beolit 12 anytime soon, but then your Beolit probably doesn't fit in your bag... this thing is small and easy enough to take with you.

You're lucky.  When I ordered mine last Friday morning I was informed the delivery would be 2-3 business days.  I've only just in the last hour received an e-mail saying it will be shipped.  Not, has been shipped but only a shipping label has been produced by UPS.    So I don't suppose it will be here until next week.  I'm not impressed.

I can't decide which color to choose. I have put an order for the gray/gold but I might change my mind. Have placed an order with my dealer instead of going over the website (so I can change my mind easily + save the environment) :D

@Luke

Congrats!

Tell us more about the sound - please.

Does it sound 'mono' - or?

Does it really sound '360' - no matter how it is placed?

Listening to it at home now, actually it sounds pretty damn good. Not mono at all.

It's really nice for acoustic, vocals etc. Not so amazing with dance music or heavy bass. It's better than those A3 iPad holders they had. I'm glad I bought it... I can hang it from my bike when I go places.

I'm all in favour of producing product for open standards, it looks nice and isn't reliant of the whims of cupertino - result!

Personally however, I don't have a need for a portable speaker. If I did, this (or the styling at least, without having heard it) blows the Bose and B&W into the weeds.

Ban boring signatures!

An iPhone will be using the A2DP profile for streaming audio, since there is no support for the aptX codecs in iDevices.

How it sounds, only (your own) listening tests will show.

(If possible) one could try to compare the same source/same music played from an iPhone

and from a Mac (which supports aptX) -  to see/hear whether there is a difference or not  'in real life' using the A2.

You select it in Bluetooth devices as you would wifi devices.  It's the same as I see it.

Like when you connect to your car, once it pairs it picks it up.

Thanks Lee !

The product is very easy to connect. Actually, I have less problems with it than my Beolit 12, which is always disconnecting, even with the latest firmware.

It is bluetooth!

I wonder how far away the two devices can be apart - and still hold the connection?

Can anyone (who already has the A2) please test that.

Mine has just arrived via UPS.

Here is a picture of unboxing.  What is a nice touch is the three addapters for the UK, EU and US in the box with the power supply.  I charged it up though this only took 20 mins so was already pretty well charged and connected to my iPad in about 10 seconds from switching it on.  It's a doddle.

Sound and volume are impressive.  When it's stood on its rubber feet the sound is all around - there is no directionality so it's true 360° sound. Don't place flat on a surface - it sounds awful and it may scratch but then it's not supposed to go that way.

It's very clear, clean sound, detailed and bass is perfect.

For MM's test: I've just had the A2 and iPad 70 metres apart outside and still going strong with no drop-out.  When Jacques arrives, I'll go further but I was at the point of not being able to hear the A2 outside at that distance!  It wasn't turned right up though.

Unboxing:

And in the house:

Dave.

good review, is there rubber feet for when standing in portrait mode ? (also may I compliment you on your cool glass table i like the spun aluminium detail)

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

No, and that's a real mistake I think.  It may look a bit obtrusive having more feet but a lot of people will want to use it that way.  An alternative would be to provide 2 protective strips to clip on along the underneath edges when it's in portrait position.  Remove them when you don't want them.

The bass is quite impressive, the sides really vibrate.  They've done a great job I think.  It isn't really mono but not full stereo either.  It's strange in that some tracks do produce some stereo effect - especially during drumming.

I didn't 'need' one either but just had to have one.  Glad I did.

3 year warranty too.

Dave.

Both the green and the black ones look really great. The green a bit playful and the black one looks more exclusive. I have ordered the gray and I am beginning to think it looks a bit to "simple". I can't decide. What should I do? =)

Well, they will all sound the same - the most important bit!

If you're unsure of your colour choice and prefer either of the other 2, change it whilst you can.  No point in not being 100% happy with it.  But, when you get it, you may love the grey.

Dave.
