I'd noticed that my Penta's were looking very grubby after being moved around a few times and getting splashed with some errant drinks the other night so I decided to give them a clean. I've always found them a bit of a pig to clean but decided to use that "magic eraser" stuff. I made sure I stuck strictly to an up and down motion and was hugely impressed. It's made no difference to the metals finish but has got rid of all the dirt and marks. I was nervous at first incase it scratched the finish but it didn't and looks great. I'd recommend it if you have grubby Pentas. Here's a before and after shot.

NIce Beaker.  They are great for all sorts of things.  Have you oiled your Pentas too - baby oil or even better is Coconut oil I've found.

I haven't oiled them. Does it really help?

It's recommended by B&O but I think it helps to make cleaning finger marks etc easier in the future.  It can even out the finish a bit.

agree with the oiling it seems to finish off the Penta's look - I normally apply the wax by hand as my body heat makes the coconut oil/wax more pliable; the only downside is the odd looks I get smelling rather tropical, and then finish off with a clean soft glove.

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

I've just restored a pair of Pentas... they were covered in dirt (probably tobacco residue) I cleaned all the greasy mess off with sugar soap, and washed the frets in the bath with a mild detergent. Afterwards I polished them up with 100% coconut oil that I got from the supermarket. They now look like new....

Another product worth a mention is 'Renaissance Wax'.  It's used by museums and is amazing stuff.  I've used it on some brass clock parts over 2 years agoiand it still looks like newly polished - no dulling or discolouration.  It would work a charm on Pentas and it's completely resistant to fingerprints.  It's worth reading the info on it.  Can be used on any material too.  Even wood, cardboard etc.
