Hello everyone.
I recently purchased a B&O MX3000 (with the Beolink 1000) and it seems to be one hell of a CRT TV. Loving the picture quality, perfect for older video games. But a have a problem, well two problems.

First i cant seem to save any changes i make to the picture/sound quality. It says in the maual i should press "STORE - PICTURE - STORE". But i just doesnt work. When i turn off the TV and then turn it back on the picture goes back to (the very dark) deafult setting. Also, in the manual it says i should see text on the screen when i change the picture setting, stuff like brightness and such. But nothing shows up on the screen, The quality changes, but no sliders or numbers.

Secondly, the picture seems just slightly off centre. There a small black bar on the right side of the screen, is there any way to change this?

Thanks for any answer!

Hi and welcome to Beoworld.  Sounds like you had a 'lost Sunday' trying to fix this.

When the TV is on (and yes the B&O CRT tv's are wonderful - especially the Avant if you get one) just press 'Picture' once.  You should then get the info for the Brilliance settings.  You should be able to now adjust them via the 'up' and 'down' arrow keys.  Once at the level you want, then you press 'Store'- 'Picture' - 'Store'in quick succession - and it is quite quick I think.

Repeat the process  for Colour and contrast but press 'Picture' Twice to get to the colour settings and thrice (not a word I use often!) to get to the contrast settings.  Once you've changed settings for each one, press 'Store'-'picture'-'store'.

You may have done this already but your descriptiojn didn't say how you tried to get to the picture settings e.g. pressing 'Picture' once, twice or thrice (there I go again!).

The off centre picture can be adjusted via the horizontal or vertical potentiometers 1PG12 (H) and 1PF02 (V) which are on board 1 and clearly labelled.

However, I in no way recommend anyone who doesn't know what they are doing with TV's to touch them internally as there is the potential for death if you touch the wrong thing!

On the back of my MX3500 which is broadly similar, there are what look like a series of access holes for potentiometer adjustments - though they aren't labelled..  Try looking at the lower back of yours and you may see them.  With the correct potentiometer adjustment tool, you should be able to use those if that is indeed what I think they are.

Dave.

Great picture,I like these, although they are not "real" B&O telly's,being based on a Thomson chassis.

If your offset picture is only apparent when viewing games,it's a problem with the games console.Often there is an offset adjustment in the set up menu of the console to compensate for this. Also, try connecting with a simple RCA/Scart adaptor, rather than full RGB Scart.

Don't venture inside the telly unless you know EXACTLY what you are doing!!!

Thanks alot for the reply!
I belive you are correct, there seems to be access holes on the back of my TV too. Well it's good to know they are there if i want to fiddle with it somewhere down the road. Im really inlove with this B&O unit, i'm going to keep a firm eye out for other B&O TVs (and HiFi systems) from now on. Made a fast google on the Avant and yeah, that thing looks stunning! :-)

I'm very sorry, i think i was a bit unclear when i described my situation. I can change the picture settings in the way you described, pushing "PICTURE" and then changing the settings with the arrow keys. The main problem was that it would't save the changes eventho i pressed "STORE" - "PICTURE" - "STORE". But it seems like i have solved that part of the issue. I was in "V-Tape" mode and had my Playstation 2 plugged in while i was trying to change the settings last night. But this morning i tried it in TV mode and then it worked! Settings saved! :-)

Now the only remaining problem is that i still have no visual indicator on the screen when i'm changing the settings. No sliders, no numbers, no nothing. This isn't as much of a problem when im changing the picture settings, i mean stuff like brightness and contrast is easy to tune by eye.
But the sound is harder, especially the speaker balance. Its so starnge, because it says in the handbook that numbers should appear on the screen. But i have so far not seen any sort of menu or interface on the TV. Im really confused.

Also one last tiny question (sorry). The Beolink 1000 remote that i have. It seems like the previous owner was using the remote to dig up vegetables in his backyard. It's in quite nasty shape. ;-)
I see screws on the back, is it safe to open it up and gently clean the thing or are there parts in there that shouldn't be messed with?

And Thanks for the welcome!

Yes so i have heard. From the info that i've gathered it seems like it was on of B&O least sucessfull TVs. But still, seems like the bottom of the B&O barrel is still better than alot of other companies top models.

Yeah you're correct, most games let you make adjustments to the screen placement. So this is not a big problem. :-)

Yes, you can open them up and clean them if you really want to.  As it works, I'd be more bothered about the external appearence.  I've used cotton buds and IPA to clean the tops and buttons of these but a damp cloth can work just as well - just don't soak it.  If you do open it up you always run the risk of damaging something as it's a bit used now.

Strange issue you have with settings.  Just wing it until you're happy.  I should have mentioned being in 'TV' mode - sorry.  It's just not as convenient and I suspect a fault on the board maybe?

Yeah i guess the outside is the main problem, i'll try the cotton buds and see how much i can tidy the thing up.

True that, i will get the setting where i want them, with some more tweaking. Not really a big issue, the important thing is that it works.  :-)
If i find a better B&O TV in the future, then i will open this one up and let one of my tech savvy friends take a look at the boards.

Thanks all for the help. Have a nice day! :-)
