Recently purchased a beosystem 4500 and two CD players.  The beolink 1000 remote I have had some corrosion in the battery compartment and on the buttons on the circuit board and does not appear to work after cleaning.

I'm using the system daily in my office and need a simple way to operate it (mostly volume and mute).

Any experience with a simple remote that can control some B&O functions?  Which remotes from B&O work with the 4500 besides the 1000?

Thanks for any help,

Chris in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, USA

The Beo4 will work fine and is easily available. The Beolink 1000, 5000, 7000 will all work and so will the Beo5 and Beo6. I suggest for simple operation, the Beolink 1000 is cheap and usually very sturdy.

Take a look here as this may get your Beolink 1000 working again!

Thanks, that was helpful.  Remote is blinking red when numbers pushed; no affect on the tuner or cd player.  Where is the IR receiver for the main unit?  I will try newer batteries, but something is still wrong with the remote...

Try pressing SOUND,1, STORE on the remote with the 4500 in stand by.

It may be the remote is turned off on the 4500.

Stoobietoo I just fixed a Beolink 1000 using the tip in the link you posted.

So happy as the remote is in mint condition and hasn't been working for months. Thanks so much!

If the Remote is blinking that would seem to indicate it is working properly and your problem might be with your system. I cannot remember where the IR receiver is on the 4500 system but I think it is only on the Beomaster and not on the other components. (I stand to be corrected). It could be that the system is in the wrong option.

When you tried Peters suggestion the display on the Beomaster should show OP 1.5 (or OP 1.6) to show it is in that option.

I hope that helps.

I'm really glad it worked for you too. I didn't hold out much hope for mine when I first read about this fix, but it just works!

Hi Ben,

Really glad that worked for you. I was really sceptical before I tried it and was glad it worked for me too.

How's "Durbs"? My parents used to bring us down from Zimbabwe (Rhodesia then) to Amanzimtoti, to stay. (In Doonside I think it was called). I haven't been back for over 20 years.

Hi Chris,

If your remote is giving out IR (which it seems to be as you say it flashes in a camera) it would seem the remote is OK so it may be your system is in the wrong option as per Peter's suggestion. When you press SOUND,1, STORE on your remote as he suggests you should see either OP 1.5 (or OP 1.6) in the display on the Beomaster 4500.

I seem to remember from my Beosystem 4500 you can also do the same thing using the keys on the Beomaster so if you get no message when using the remote but do when you do it on the Beomaster, it may well be your remote is faulty after all.

Hope that assists

Hey Stoobie

Durbs is good thanks. Yes Doonside is correct. If its been that long you certainly won't recognise it today. Still a beautiful place, amazing weather etc..

Not sure how to do that on the 4500 itself.  In standby (i.e., off with red light only showing), if I press sound, no display, and once I get to the "1" button it switches on to radio.  Is there a different sequence on the 4500?

Hi Chris,

I wasn't too sure if you could do that sequence directly on the 4500 but suggested it as it might work - seems maybe not. I had one up until about 4 years ago and thought I had done it that way but I must have used the remote!

I think I know the issue.  Can't see any output on the remote on the final "store" button.  So, I can do power, sound, (number), but cannot finish the sequence with the store button....

so I assume the main unit is programmed with 0, no remote control.

I even got the remote app on my cell phone to record the IR signals off the remote.  Useless without the final button, which I just cannot get to function.  Anyone in the cape cod, MA area with a beolink 1000 I can borrow for five minutes?

Are you able to cut an paste codes into your cell phone app? There is a site with the Pronto Hex codes for a Beolink 1000 and it says this is the STORE code.

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE

0000 0009 0016 0000 005b 0546 005b 0546 005b 1bc0 005b 0546 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 1083 005b 0546 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 0ae4 005b 1083 005b 0546 005b 1083 005b 0ae4 005b 1622 005b 0546

If you can get that into your app, it may work for you. good luck.
