hi can my beomaster 8000 be upgraded to use active speakers ? thanks
What active speakers would you like to use?
hi lee have two pairs off beolab 3000 but at the moment im using two pairs of passive beovox 5000 yours shaun

Why would you want to? The BM8000 is just about the best amplifier B&O ever made!
hi adam just in case ? things change in the hifi world I can still use my 8000 yours shaun
The answer is yes as it has a pre-amp out. Agree with Adam that this is one time I would stick with the power amplifier supplied though!

The Beomaster 8000 was designed to function as a receiver. It doesn't have a typical separation between the pre-amp section and the power amp. There are a couple of external jumpers after the input selection stage (prior to the volume and tone control stage) though, called External Filters. You could pull the jumpers there and run the signal to an active speaker. However, you would no longer be able to use the Beomaster output stage and you wouldn't be able to adjust the volume (or tone) from the Beomaster. At that point you would be using the Beomaster 8000 just as a source selection device for your active speakers rather than having your active speakers as an addition to your Beomaster system. Another option would be to run the Tape 2 record out signals to your active speakers. That would leave your Beomaster 8000 system intact for normal operation (except TP2). Just like the first option though, your Beomaster wouldn't be controlling the volume of your active speakers.
I thought the Beolab 3000 had speakerlink inputs? If it has surely you could just run the speaker outs on the Beomaster 8000 into the speakerlink sockets on the speakers. That way you would still get to control the volume with the Beomaster. I know this isn't supposed to sound as good as using a line level signal but it would work wouldn't it?

I had to modify my Beomaster 5500 to accommodate my Beolab 6000 active speakers, and it sounds much better than when I used the attenuated power output!
But with a Beomaster 8000, use passive speakers.
