Is it possible to connect RL 60 and/or CX50 speakers to modern TV's? If so, are there any downsides to using them?
Hi there.
First of all: are we talking about modern B&O TV's or "just" modern TV's from another manufacturer?
Second of all: the RL 60's and the CX50's are both passive speakers which means that they need amplification in order to produce sound. Therefore you need an amplifier in between the TV and the actual speakers them selves. I guess you could use the headphone socket of the TV to connect to the amp's auxiliary input, which would then help power the speakers. Take for instance the Beomaster 3500. This will drive two sets of speakers in conjunction. I'm not sure though in regards to the different impedance between the speakers in question. Anyone?
Third of all: I guess potential downsides are a subjective matter. If one likes the sound of the speakers in question, there needn't be any downsides. However, the CX50 does fall short on bass reproduction (84 hz), whereas the RL 60 digs a lot deeper (45 hz). This would most probably make the RL 60 the preferred front speaker of the two, while the CX50 probably would have to settle for rear speaker in a "sort of surround" setup. Eventhough, I still regard the CX50 as a wonderful little speaker. Precise, energetic, involving and surprisingly punchy when being fed lots of power, since it's not the easiest load in the world of hifi.
