Hi

I have a BeoVision 11 post November 2013 with:

Connections

  • HDMI : Six
  • USB : Two
  • Headphone socket : one
  • Power Link sockets : five, with 2 channels in each for connection of external speakers and sub-woofer
  • Network    WLAN/LAN
  • Security : Pincode protection
  • WiSA (from November 2013)

Today I have my BeoVision 11 hooked up with one Beolab 1 4.1 for 5.1 in my living room.

I am think about buying one more Beolab 14 4.1 to add 2.1 to dining room and two more speakers to the living room for the possibility to play 7.1, or maybe even 7.2 and let the setup in the dining room be 2.0.

But is it even possible, today I am using 3/5 Power link sockets

PL 1 Left: Beolab 14

PL 1 Right : Beolab 14

PL 2 Left: Beolab 14

PL 2 Right : Beolab 14

PL 3 Left: Beolab 14 SUB

PL 3 Right : Beolab 14 SUB

PL 4 Left: None

PL 4 Right : None

PL 5 Left: None

PL 5 Right : None

I was thinking that the two SUB's could share one PL, I would think that mono would be enough for the SUB, but I would like some input on this and also how to run the cables for such a installation.

The setup with 2 x Beolab 14 4.1 would look like this:

PL 1 Left: Beolab 14 (1)

PL 1 Right : Beolab 14 (1)

PL 2 Left: Beolab 14 (1)

PL 2 Right : Beolab 14 (1)

PL 3 Left: Beolab 14 SUB (1)

PL 3 Right : Beolab 14 SUB (2)

PL 4 Left: Beolab 14 (2)

PL 4 Right : Beolab 14 (2)

PL 5 Left: Beolab 14 (2)

PL 5 Right : Beolab 14 (2)

Thanks

Hi and welcome to Beoworld,

sounds great...and possible  - please first have a look at this thread for inspiration:

http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/t/12552.aspx?PageIndex=1

If you are lucky - and he has some spare time - Geoff Martin might even commend on, how you can 'fine-tune' the setup to suit your wishes.

Would be nice to have some details about the room you use for the setup - since this might be important for placing the speakers!

P.S. I'd very much like to hear a setup with two BL14-sub and the 6 satelites with a BV11 - must be amazing Smile

Personally I'd even go for a 9.2-solution installing the 4 extra satelites as a second hight layer above the 'normal' 4's.

I am sure that the TrueImage-upmixer will do an exellent job this way - (and maybe some day we will have Auro3D-encoded content playing through the soundengine of the BV11 as well).

However - if your preference is using the two of the additional spekers in a nearby room, that is what you should do.

Thanks for your reply and link, which I have seen it all ready.

My main issue is how I do the install of the two sub's on one PL, and what the difference in sound would be in the sub in mono (one) vs. stereo(two).

Any one?

Geoff described it so:

"If you do this, then consider making one S8 comprise your Left Sub, Left Surround and Left Back (Or Left Front / Left Surround) and the other S8 looking after the Right side."

If I understand that right, you - this way - let the BV do the bas management. You don't connect the 2 subs as LFE channels.

It would be better - especially when you play music - because the BL14 sub and the BL14 sats are tuned together.

Note: every PL-port contains two channels - you do the configuration in the sound settings of the BV.
In case you need a splitter, there is an y-adapter with the item number 3132047 available.

Hi Millemissen

Thanks for all your help.

Yes, the Y-adapter would do the trick :-)

My current setup BV11 with Beolab 14 4.1:

I S1                 W1                 BV11              S2 I

I                (Living room)                            (Entrance)      (Dinning room)

I                                                                         I

Ups, I forgot the 2 extra speakers in the living room.

I think the solution with the two SUB's in the same room is what I want.

Hi

So my future setup would look like this, any input?

Connected to Sub1(W1) (PL3 is connected to both SUB's with the Y-adapter item number 3132047)

---------------------------SUB1-------------------------------

PL 1 Left: Beolab 14 (S1)

PL 1 Right : Beolab 14 (S3)

PL 2 Left: Beolab 14 (S5)

PL 2 Right : Beolab 14 (S8)

PL 3 Left: Beolab 14 SUB (W1)

---------------------------SUB2-------------------------------

PL 3 Right : Beolab 14 SUB (W2)

PL 4 Left: Beolab 14 (S2)

PL 4 Right : Beolab 14 (S4)

PL 5 Left: Beolab 14 (S6)

PL 5 Right : Beolab 14 (S7)

This way  left Sub1(W1) in 7.2 play all left sound channels and Sub2(W2) all right Channels, both in the 7.2 and 2.0 setup.

___________________________________________________________________

I S1                 W1                 BV11              S2 I S7

I                (Living room 7.0)                       (Entrance)      (Dinning room 2.0)

I                                                                         I

I S5                                                              S6 I

I                                                                   W2 I

I S3                                                              S4 I S8

HI,

I just noticed this thread last night. I don't know how to make specific comments on the setup, since I can't real unwrap what it is that you want to do. Could you make a drawing and post it as a graphics file?

However, I have one comment that may help or confuse...

Remember that the BL14 has its own built-in bass management system. This means that, if you set up your BV11 correctly, then it will NOT bass manage the BL14 satellites to the BL14 sub - the signals will be untouched and left for the BL14 sub to bass manage. With respect to your description, this means that the "2.0" setup will actually be a 2.1 setup, with the BL14 sub in the living room playing the low end for the 2 sat's in the dining room.

Cheers

HI again.

Sorry - I hit "send" too early, and my "Edit" button doesn't seem to work.

There are some other issues that you need to consider.

You should split one PowerLink cable to both subwoofers, however, you need a "special" splitter that does not send both the  left and right channels to both subwoofers. This is because, if you do this, you will be sending input into the Center and LFE inputs on both subs. Since the BL14 bass manages itself, this means that you will not be able to have a Sub L and Sub R - they'll both be playing a mix of Sub L + Sub R.

Note that this kind of PowerLink splitter cable used to exist in the DIN days - I don't know if it still exists for RJ45. If not, then Steve could easily make one for you.

So, if you get/make that splitter cable, then your plan to put two subs on one Power Link cable will work correctly.

Then the question is how to set up your Speaker Groups. This is where I don't understand what you want to do - since I can't glean whether you want the 7.x in the living room and the 2.x in the dining room to play independently or simultaneously. These two setups will require different Speaker Roles for your two subwoofers in order to get things to behave correctly.

Cheers
