Concerning the new BeoVision Avant 55. I have the BVA connected to a NAS DLNA server. On the NAS I have movies, most are in some widescreen aspect ratio.

If I use the home-media function of the BVA55 then the movies play allright, but their aspect ratio is wrong. The movies are stretched to fill the screen, there are no black borders on top and bottom.

How can I solve this problem? I cannot find any setting in the BVA55 which lets me control the aspect ratio.

B&O have (for some reason) decided not to allow you to change the format of a movie playing in the HOME MEDIA feature. It is - of course - no problem but I am sure someone is very strict on putting manhours on features that doesnt specifically sell more sets (unfortunately).

Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2,
BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century,
BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i,
BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40,
BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)

@Flere

Which DLNA server are you using?

Which software do you use to make the MKV's?

P.S. Did you try to change the picture format using the 'List -> Format' function with the Remote One?

MM

There is a tv - and there is a BV

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

I use the Mediaserver of the Synology NAS.

I have created the movie files using handbrake using the Apple TV3 presets.

The movies play fine when downloaded to the iPad. The iPad then correctly puts black band on top and bottom for the widescreen movies.

When using the PlugPlayer app on the iPad the movies retrieved from the NAS DLNA server are correctly rendered and displayed on the iPad.

Yes, but the BVA55 will not respond to the List->Format command when in HomeMedia mode.

So B&O only did the advanced format detection and handling in the TV mode, but not in the HomeMedia mode. This way B&O made the HomeMedia for the showroom only.

This is a disappointing oversight.  At least I'm really hoping it's an oversight.  I have only started using the Home Media source recently and I'm confused as to why this feature isn't implemented.  Has anyone been in touch with B&O about it?  I have already lodged a request online and urge everyone else to as well.

If we're lucky they may also fix the subtitle bug for embedded subtitles at the same time.

It's probably something that will be fixed in a new firmware, I have noticed that if you play the media file via USB it seams to be display in the correct format.

I can confirm this. I took two of the "NAS" movie files and put them on a USB stick. Put the USB stick in the Avant. And voila, perfect viewing of the wide screen movie.

So it is not the movie file.

It has something to do with the way the Avant interacts with the NAS, or with the way the Avant processes DLNA retreived information different than from USB.

Hope somebody from B&O is seeing this and they will fix this soon.

It is not the NAS software, as the exact same aspect ratio problem is occurring if I use the Avant HomeMedia to play the same movie file via my Plex DNLA server running on my MacMini.

My Avant software was automatically updated overnight, and I can confirm that this problem is fixed now.
