Another one who thinks it's made of gold. Gold digger probably?

Where's the plastic tube btw...Not showing on the pictures. Never heard about MMC5R

Bought the same one MMC5 new in box with the plastic tube and accessories for 125 euro.

Btw, looks more like a MMC2 so what's this guy talking about?

It is a 5 - the least well specified of the MMC range - I agree with him that the differences between this and an MMC4 are minimal. The R stands for replacement and was used on many B&O cartridges over the years.  Far too expensive - a new Soundsmith is a lot less and uses modern magnets and will have new suspension.

Have you zoomed in Peter? Looks more like a MMC2 with a MMC5 box?

The R-versions came without the plastic tube, accessories and B&O test certificate.
The MMC 1 was not available as R-version. MMC 2-5 were all.

The listing price is a bit optimistic, I agree.

Thanks Martin, now I know where the R stands for.

Interesting Picture, Martin. I never knew there was a 'R' series.

At some point B&O changed the boxing for the MMC cartridges. When I bought my MMC2 it was not in the plastic cylinder - and it was not a 'R' type.

Here's a Picture of the box it came in:

I agree that the price of the MMC on e-bay is way over the top. As I collect model cars, I know that the original box means a lot for the price.
But I doubt that even the most hardcore B&O collector will pay that much for a cartridge, just because it is in the original box...
And why should the Price for his MMC5 be ten times the price of his MMC4..? (which is also unused, in original box)

Could it be, that it's simply a typo..? That the first '2' should be removed..? £219 sounds more reasonable. Though still too much IMO.

As we all know, it is not necessarily a good thing for a pick-up that it has been unused for 20+ years. As Peter wrote: Better buy a new one from Soundsmith.

I sent a mail to the seller of this MMC 5, just to ask if the price of £2.219 perhaps was a typo... And guess what? It was just a joke...
or - as he describes it: A marketing tactic...  Erm.. <img src=" />

Here is what he wrote:

Hi!
it's just a marketing tactic, views go through the roof. Give it a try. If somebody wants to pay...
Regards

Very funny...
Well - he gets people lured into watching his auctions... But even his MMC 4 is still too expensive IMO...Devil <img src=" />

I'm out of here for now... I think I must place an ad for my old Beovision MX 4000. How about £10.000 ? Views will go sky high... Wink <img src=" /> Whistle <img src=" />
