Hi Everyone,
Well I never thought I would be able to own a B&O system but have been given an old Beocenter 5 TV/Music system.
Its a thing of beauty and despite being from 1998 its in mint condition with all the manuals and ownership pack etc. The lady who gave it to me said it had been in the spare room for some years and only used a handful of times.
Everything is working apart from the CD player.
It just keeps asking me to load. When I hit GO not alot happens. The door closes but then opens again a few seconds afterwards, It does not spin or anything.
Any thoughts or suggestions ? Ive tried cleaning the lens.
Many thanks for your valuable time - Its much appreciated.
4 beolab 5, beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2, 2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...
olvisab: Beocenter 5 , are you sure? Rather beocenter 2, don't you think? Did you try enough commercial cd. Engraved mp3 cds won't work but you should already know that.

The BC2 was available from 2004 - not 1998. I don't know which BC the OP has either though. Can you please be a bit more specific as a BC5 doesn't exist.
Depending on the CD player, it could need capacitor replacements or reflowed solder joints. A picture or definitive model would be useful.
Dave.
Hi All,
Apologies - Ive confused things. Its actually a BEOCENTER AV5 that I have. TV with built in CD Player.
I cleaned the lens with a little meth spirits and played around alot with the remote (which is a something 4??!?!) and got the CD working OK but its ot every time.
It seems either holding the yellow or green buttons seems to do the trick? Go doesnt really do alot.
Any ideas what I should be pressing ?
Any way I can connect an IPAD ?
The unit sounds epic considering it was made all that time ago!
Congratulations with your Beocenter, and welcome.
To those Beoworlders who don't know what a Beocenter AV 5 is, here it is: " />
Your remote is a Beo4. The CD should play just by pressing CD on the remote. It is difficult to say what can be wrong with your cd-player, but at least you have made it play sometimes.
You should be able to use your iPhone/iPad if there is an AUX socket on the back of the Beocenter. I don't know if this model have - but I think so.You will need a mini-Jack to DIN cable.
Thanks Steffen,
Thats what I have - RETRO huh !!! Mine is a slightly easier colour in grey and black.
Its an awesome sounding piece of kit. The CDs sound fantastic.
Regarding plugs at the back.....
There is a red, white and yellow RCA type plugs, scarts, headphone sockets and an SVHS ? Its the red and white to small din I need yes ?
Appreciate your replies - I can see myself getting some more B&O!
Those red and white sockets are not DIN - those are Phono (RCA) sockets. (edit) I can see you know that... " /> Then you will need a simple Jack-to-RCA (Phono) cable.
The Jack shall be put in your iPad.

olvisab:I have seen one into the house of a b&o collector. I have been really surprised by its size and find it very cute compared to the more massiv avant. If I had more place I would search one.
The AV5 was never a big success. I can somehow understand why... At that time the 16:9 format was becoming increasingly popular - and people wanted bigger screens like 28" and 32" (which was big for CRT). The flat-screen TV's were 'just around the corner'. And then B&O came out with a (quite expensive) 25" 4:3 CRT tv with a build-in radio -and only a CD player (that could also play CD-i. But that was useless to most consumers).Yes - the DVD media was quite new when the AV5 was released -and it took a few years before it came in the Avant. But perhaps the AV5 could have been the first B&O with a DVD player..? At least I can remember in the late 90's, some people were talking about the AV5 being already outdated, as consumers were buying DVD players in large numbers. (Besides the many who were still satisfied with their VHS ).
And of course, when the Beocenter 1 came out, around 2000, then the AV5's fate was sealed.
