Hello everyone,
I just bought a beocenter 2, and waiting to get the loudspeakers. In the meantime, I tried the unit but it won't play any sound (using the jack connection with earplugs) and nothing appear on the screen when I try to play a CD or the radio. I just have the red dot (blinking when I touch a command). The only action I can perform is loading a CD.
Would that be because there are no speakers connected with powerlink?
Any ideas of what else could be the issue?
Thank you very much in advance.
Charles
not beeing an expert - maybe wrong option setting?
Regard Elmar
Weclome to Beoworld and congrats on a nice purchase.
The first thing to try is unplug the connecting cable from the head unit and black box. Reconnect it carefully making sure it properly connected.
Lets know how it goes.
valve1 is correect in using this as a first option. A previous thread last week or so had a similar issue and it was solely down to a poor connection to the socket unit. Once properly connected i.e. the connectors were firmly pushed in, it worked fine.
Is this the BC2 DVD/CD or just the BC2 Audio only unit? Do you have it connected to a TV or is it a stand alone product just waiting for speakers?
Is it PIN protected and do you know the PIN? Do you have a remote with it?
Have you got a user manual? To get the best use from it, it's best to know how to do things properly with it.
Try those connections first and we can take it from there.
Dave.
Thank you for your help! Much appreciated.
I tried to re-plug several times, and checked the connectors (all are firmly pushed in). Same results.
It is for now a standalone product waiting for the speakers and remote. I had in mind to check it with headsets.
It is a BC2 DVD/CD, and it's not connected to any TV yet
This no PIN protected as far as I know, but I can check with previous owner.
I have the manual, yes. Actually I used a similar product for years at my parents' place who have the same, so I was expecting simple plug&play (but it never works that way...).
Ok my last idea before going back to seller. Have a good look at both ends of cable for dirt/ bent pins and the same for the black box/head unit.
As it's a stand alone audio unit, it needs to be in option setting 'A-OPT 2'. Do you know how to change the settings? Do you have a BEO4 remote to do this? The previous owner may have used it in a different setting with a different option setting.
Thank you very much.
I checked the connectors, and they seem fine to me. I don't have the remote yet, but will get it next week and make the proper checks, that is a very good idea. I asked the previous owner what was his setting, waiting for the answer.
I found in the manual of the beocenter 2 socket this section on the mode setting. I will try that as soon as I get the remote, as I understand that you cannot do the manipulation without the remote for some reason... But shouldn't it be Option 1?
To program Option for your audio system with the Beo4 remote control …
> While holding down the • button, press LIST.
> Let go of both buttons.
> Press LIST repeatedly until OPTION? is shown in the Beo4 display and press GO.
> Press LIST repeatedly until A.OPT is shown in the Beo4 display and then key in the appropriate number (0, 1, 2, 5 or 6).
Option 0: Used when your music system is connected to your video system and no speakers are connected directly to your music system. If you wish to change the Option setting to 0 from any other setting, change it first to 1 before changing it to 0.
Option 1: Used when your music system is set up on its own or connected to a video system, when speakers are connected to your music system
Option 2: Used when your music system is set up in one room and connected to a video system set up in another room.
Option 5: Used when your music system is set up in a link room which also comprises a Bang & Olufsen television.
A-OPT 1 is correct. Apologies. You do need the remote to do this.
Hopefully this will work.
don´t worry! as I remember from our BC 2 when it arrived it was the same issue. It seems that the old user has connected the BC 2 to a Beovision with loudspeakers connected to the Beovision. So BC 2 is automatically in Option 6 when power link socket is empty. When you get your speakers you connect them and you can set the Option to Audio 1 with Beo4 and all will work fine.

Thanks for the reassurance Adrian.
Hopefully, this is all that it is. I suspect so as it powers up etc. I've had a BS9000 and lots of other items with option settings that needed changing before I could use them too.
Thank you very much Adrian and Dave, this is most helpful.
I will try to do so as soon as I get the remote and post back on the forum to write if this was the issue or not.
Thanks again.
Dear all,
To close on this topic. I tried all the solution above but with no luck. So I left the unit at the B&O store for diagnostic. It turns out that there is a failure in the micro-processor and in the power supply (I don't have more details), and the repair would cost an astronomical amount...
Best,
Tough luck Charles. B&O repairs usually do cost a lot unfortunately. Maybe a donor unit with cosmetic damage could be found? Or, just get another via a reseller!
Thanks for the update. Sorry it wasn't better news.
Daves suggestion is spot on, these are coming down in price and its worth considering a replacement which may be cheaper than a repair.
What about the seller? Has he knowingly sold a defective BC2?
I think I would be approaching him for a refund, unless it was the situation where he claims to know nothing about it and had no means of testing it etc, thus putting all the risk onto the buyer. Private seller or business? The seller must know something about the BC2's origins, and someone will know about the fault.

Do yourself a favour and contact Lee at Lifestyle. My BC2 was the victim of a lightning strike and like you I took it to the dealers who presented me with a repair quote that nudged GBP1,500...
I got in touch with Lee recalling him mentioning in another thread about BC2 socket units that he has some (just the socket unit) and from the above, it seems as if all your issues are confined to the socket unit. I was able to get a socket unit for a fraction (less than 25%) of the price of the repairs, had it in a matter of days and my BC2 is 100% again/
vikinger:I think I would be approaching him for a refund,
Graham, I forgot the start of this thread, the fact that it was just bought is indeed a seller issue.
