I wonder why they did this amp in black ?

As what it seems there are no matching BG or BC ( execpt BC2400 ) that have black fronts ?, or am I wrong ?

Could it have been a start of a product line that never saw the worlds light ?

Anyone with some info ?

Not sure, but IMHO it fits visually pretty well next to 4000 series Beograms, at least with these darker wood types:

It is a wonderful amp and it is not the only one made with black front. Actually there were several amps made in black (Beomaster 1001, Beomaster 1100, Beomaster 1400, Beomaster 1600, Beolab+Beomaster 1700, Beomaster 2000, Beomaster 4401 ...)

From the cassette recorders there were few with black front as Beocord 1100, Beocord 1700, Beocord 2200

To match the Beomaster 2000 (Type 2801) B&O produced the Beogram 2000 (Type 5240) which had the part of the lid in black instead of silver.

I don't know other Beogram with black front (or at least part of it in black) but there was a all-in-black version of beocenter. It had a name Beocenter 3600...

Back then they made quite a few Black versions of the receivers/Beocenters. BM 1100 -a Black version of 901. Beocenter 1600 - a Black version of the BC 1500. BM 1400/1500. BM 1600/1700. Well some of them had matching Beocords - but never black Beograms.
There was never a specific Beocord to match the BM 4000 or the BM 1400/1500.

As seen here on Beoworld, there was a black version of the 4400 (the 4401) with a matching black Beogram of the 4000 series. This never made it into the stores, though.

I think it was just a matter of giving people a choice. And in some cases to differ the AM/FM versions from the FM - only versions.

And, as Tournedos' Picture shows - the Beograms matches fine anyway, due to the dark dustcover.

Which means  there is no match to BM4000 ?

The lonely back guy in the stereo....

Unless you modify, paint an BG4000 and relabel it..

As it is from 1972, I think it simply predates the concept of visually matching systems that arrived later - so not that many would've cared.

Except perhaps Beolab 5000 + Beomaster 5000. But wait - what do Beocord 2000 and Beogram 3000 have to do with them visually?

All the Beograms would have matched the black front of the BM4000 by simply lifting the dust cover and placing a black vinyl LP on them.

Hate to say this but the legendary Beogram 4001 is a hoax. The Beocord 2200 was black though and was a jolly good tape deck.
