Hi

Does anyone have any experience with refurbing the cd-spindle thingy in a cd-player ?

The thing I am talking about is this...

When inserting a cd, it is clear that the motor is spinning some time without the cd, after a second or 2, the cd is up to speed and the player works fine..

Is it possible to change the black stuff on the base so the cd's will have better grip again ? Or other stuff that can be applied ?

Anyone ?

What makes you think that is the issue?  On the underside of the lid, there is a spring loaded clamp system.  Is that working properly?  It should feel firm to depress the clamper upwards.  Maybe there is where the problem lies.  The spindle you show looks normal to me.

Yes, I am 100% sure.. The black stuff is completelly dried out, even if I just put in a CD without closing the lid, then I can spin the CD without the motor is turning also.. The cd is totally loose...

However, I have solved the problem :)

Bought some black "rough" tape about 0,3mm thick at my hardware store, using 2 washers to use as templates and cut the tape with a very sharp knife.. Works like a charm now, no sound what so ever, start and focus is much faster :)

Maybe I will buy 2 washers with more precise size to get it to look a bit more like the original..

And yes, the clamper feels very firm, that was the first thing I tried, I dissasembled it at made sure it was working, and that the spring was very "springy" :)
