Having heard the Avant is going up by about £600 from January, I thought it was the perfect time to have a go!

I started off with an 11-40 in my lounge, which I felt was the ideal size for the room. It was an absolutely brilliant TV, but I always felt a little sad that I had got the smallest size - in my old house I had an 11-46.

So a few weeks ago I home demo'd the 46" version. It looked huge at first, I thought it was a non-starter. However within about 48 hours my wife was saying it was fine and we should keep it!

I have always thought the new Avant just had soooo much desirability though! I just wished my lounge was big enough to have one!

Anyway, I had a home demo tonight - i must say I don't feel I have ever been one for going for big screen sizes just for the sake of it - but I absolutely love it! There's so much magic in this TV, you just fall in love with it! The picture is great, but more so i'm amazed with the sound. Like many people on here, I have always held the 7-55 with 7-6 up as the ultimate TV - but there's no way it would fit in here. In fact when we first moved in I got a Mk6 7-40 but it just looked far too big. The sound of this Avant though is just amazing. I haven't cranked it up too loud yet (i have a 3 year old daughter asleep upstairs!) but the sound is just so, so clear! An amazing job from Geoff Martin.

You can't really judge how good the sound is in a showroom, inevitably it just gets blasted out at high volume to show it off, but when you get home and listen to normal stuff at normal levels, i'm just blown away by the clarity of it all. TV and music sound fantastic.

Anyway back to the core of the story!

The Avant has such an acceptable design, and a much lighter design that it actually doesn't seem like there's a much bigger object in the room. The wife took only 30 minutes to say 'ok'!

I have posted pictures below to show the difference from the 46 to the 55. Not as OMG as I feared!

Also these are a few surprising (well to me anyway!) pics of how not big some new tvs look compared to old ones. Here is an old Avant 32 next to a new 11-40 on an easel stand...

And an Avant 32 next to an Avant 55....

Here's a pic of when it was an 11-40, though unfortunately not taken from the same position.

Thanks Chris! I can no longer take the moral high ground for sticking to a small screen size lol!

I absolutely agree.

For me the table top Avant design is the "lightest" visually.

I wonder at what point the weight becomes to much for the motor to lift ... 85" clearly - but 75" ? 65 " ?

Anyway, back to you Martin, I am with your wife: "OK ... buy it ... now !"

Sadly no plans for a table stand on the 75 or 85. I would be confident to say there will never be a 65". I'd love to see a smaller size but I can't ever see that happening either. I really like the internet radio part, perfect with a MyButton!

Martin. Wow great photos. Thanks for posting. I love the size difference between the old avant and new.

The new avant looks lighter in that corner.

I still can't get over how the pole goes to the front though lol.

Great choice. Wink
