Hi All...
After seeing the thread with the white BM4500, I decided to see how I could upgrade one of my BM3500's..
I really liked the white version, but did not have any way of using spray-paint right now. In the other thread, a guy suggested to use white wrapping foil instead, so that was what I decided to try out.
Went to my local store, and bought a roll of no-glossy white foil for 7 euro.
Here is what i started out with :
A very dusty 25 year old BM3500. All disassembled and ready for cleaning.
I'm very sorry, but somehow a lot of my "get it white" images got lost !! But here is one where the sides has been done, and the front is getting ready to be "very sharp knife" 'd :)
And after the knife.. Be very careful not to scratch the BM it self with the knife.. It takes a lot of patience and steady hands, but it can be done really really nice looking.
Then the transformer is rewired for 240V, just move the green wire 1 connector to the right on each coil. This picture shows the transformer AFTER the change to 240V.
Then its just a matter of putting it all together again :)
Since I now know that the BM3500 can be upgraded to SW 2.2 and act 100% like a 2-way BM4500, that is what I decided to do also, here the old chip is removed
And the new one in place.
Turn it on.. and pres... whaaat ? The display shows "code" !!
Not to worry, just get out your trusty Beolink 1000, make sure it is in "Audio mode(just press radio)", enter 1-2-7-1, wait 3 seconds, remove power to the unit, and then just plug it back in again..
Then press radio again, and the unit turns on, and all is good. And look.. the "Timer" LED is on when pressing "Programming".. I do believe we have a 2-way timer programmable Beomaster 3500 here :)
Now put the lid back on, re-attach the glasspanel and this is the result..
The white reflection is my lamp above the table :) It is so cool in real life, the foil is very easy to work with, no bubbles, no scratches, it is just fantastic to look at..
All in all, it has just taken me 2,5 hours to do all this, but with that in mind, I have disassembled and put back together a lot of these BM35/4500's
Now just need to figure out what color to make the next one..
It is kind of boring to look at now :)
Good job, nice pics and texts and looks good, next one maybe red vine colour
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
Rich:How about making me one to match my M70 frets (see avatar)?
- made for music like this:
- or maybe not..?
That'd be pretty trippy if it wasn't for the writing! Would be rght at home in The Factory.
As for the OP, great job, you've got more patience than I have, I hate working with adhesive backed wraps like that though the results can be great if you have the patience and skill to do it.
Jeff
I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
I would be happy to make one for you, it just seems that it is not easy to find the color scheme ;)
