I have owned this since new and the only problem has been cracked solder joints on the PCB. It is in fine condition.
However on a recent occasion, whilst in use, acrid smoke appeared at the rear, but surprisingly sound and vision were not lost. I called a local TV repairer who has fixed solder problems before, he took it away, and he tells me that it has been running on test for 2 weeks without any problems whatsoever.
He can't find anything wrong, there is no sign of overheating or burning, and it remains a puzzle [his words]. He has now said that WHATEVER may go wrong in the future it will not be worth trying to repair because no spares are available. Is this correct? Any comments or experience?
The set will be returned to me in a couple of days.
Thanks
Welcome to Beoworld.
Possibly just something like a moth or other insect/accumulation of dust just gone up in smoke. If everything works OK and there is no obvious sign of physical damage then hopefully it's nothing preceeding termination! Something like that is often a capacitor giving way but that would be evident to the tech and compromise performance. I hope he dusts it off inside whilst it's open as a lot gets in there.
Spares may not be available directly via B&O on these older models, but like vintage B&O audio equipment, we can always keep them going with components sourced from donor sets, fellow Beoworld members or other epair shops. If you wanted to keep it going, you probably could depending on how much you wanted to invest in it.
