Hi all!
I'm brand new to the forum, but have been lurking and reading for quite some time!
I'm about to make my first major B&O purchase, moving up from the A9 into the Beolab 18 & 19 series, and I have a couple of quick questions.
I'll be connecting a Panasonic ST60 which, unfortunately has extremely poor performance over HDMI out for audio, as such, I need to use Optical out wherever possible to avoid issues such as very poor lip sync, and general quality issues. (they made a beautiful panel and really skimped everywhere else).
I'll be connecting an Apple TV, a playstation 4, and a Project Turntable for my Vinyl.
This will then be connected to an (as yet) non existent digital processor (I'm looking at the Rotel RC-1570) but am very much open to ideas. As you can see, I'm after *lots* of optical inputs. From here it will output over optical (I guess) to a B&O transmitter 1, a BeoSound essence, and then finally into a pair of Beolab 18s, and a Beolab 19 for Bass.
I'd really love any feedback, suggestions or major issues you feel I might run into, before I place my order at my local B&O dealer.
Thank you so much for your advice!
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Welcome to the Forum!
You can check the link in my signature to give you some ideas about connecting Beolabs to the AVR.

What makes you think this?
If you connect all your devices via HDMI to your AVR and then connect the AVR to the Panasonic (as Display only). You just send the pic to the Panasonic, the Sound will be sent to your Beolabs.

Thanks Leos, I'll take a look at Beosystem 4!
Kallasr, there's a lot of information out there around the poor performance of the ST60 and HDMI, namely over time the system creates lag of 50ms+
When you mention connecting the devices to the AVR and then the AVR to the panasonic, is that via ARC?
Many thanks
Hi and welcome to Beoworld,
I am sure you will be pleased with the sound of a BL18/19 combo.
However, with this kind of setup you will have to deal with several problems - and maybe you will have to live with more compromises, than you would wish for.
1: if you connect your sources to the preamp via optical you only get sound - to see a picture, you will have to run a HDMI from each device to the tv in addition.
Why not just connect the sources to the tv directly (the Pana has the 3 HDMI you need) - and run the (one) optical to your preferred preamp?
Would be much easier in terms of remote-controlling. (Of cource you will have to connect the turntable via RCA directly to the preamp.)
2: the Rotel, that you mention does not seem to have an optical output . But you don't really need that anyway - the analog line-outs will be fine.
A problem with the Rotel is, that it has no dedicated subwoofer output - and that you must be sure, that the connected devices can output the sound as PCM as the Rotel has no Dolby/DTS decoders built in.
Maybe you should look for a multichannel receiver with preouts instead!!
3: in order to connect the sound wirelessly to the input of the BS Essence, you will - in addition to the transmitter - need a WiSA receiver.
The Essence has no wireless (line-in) option built in!.
4: according to your drawing, you intend to connect the BL17/18 to the Essence. The Essence has two PL-outputs, and you can not connect the sub directly. The BL19 has (only) a dedicated sub-input - and no outputs to connect the BL18 to (pass-through).
You could (if you use a multichannel preamp with sub-out) use the transmitter1 solution for the direct connection of the BL17/18 - a very good solution indeed.
You could then (instead) connect the Essence (via PL to RCA adapter) as a source directly to the preamp. This - however - would mean fiddling with volumen control from the Essence wheel and from the preamp at the same time - not an elegant solution. You should know that the Essense is made as a standalone solution - and that it will work best that way.
Another solution might be choosing another sub (the BS2) in order to connect the BL18 directly to it. You would - in addition to the Transmitter1 - need a receiver for this.
I am aware that the above can be quite confusing. But the setup you wish for is (sorry for saying) confusing - nothing for everyday (and wife/girlfriend) managing - if it should be established.
Did you ever think of buying a B&O tv as your next B&O purchase?
A newer B&O tv is THE hub for all that you want - it has the (multichannel) preamp for sound built in, good speakers built in and wireless function (WiSA) for additional BeoLabs built in too.
You can connect all your devices to it directly, without being concerned of any loss in sound - and you have one remote control for all (even the ATV).
A BV11 - and the BL17 for a start - would make things much easier and would in most cases be sufficient for sound/soundquality. Leaving the BL18's out - for better days ;-(
Hope this helps!
So keep reading.
Maybe some other Beoworlder with similar 'problems' could give other - perhaps different - hints for you.
Edit! Pushing the post-button, i see that already other beoworlders are concerned too :-))
Using a BSys4 and your Pana as a display might be a solution to consider, but not the most elegant in terms of remote-controlling.
Please let us know how things work out.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Unfortunately it looks like Beosystem 4 is a little too rich for my blood!
Kallasr, will the 5 volt jumpers be needed if the labs are receiving their signal from the Beotransmitter 1?
Well, for a simple Stereo set-up it might work without Trigger using the line Input (the Beolabs are turned on as they receive a Signal). If the powerlink Connections are to be used the Trigger Signal is neccessary.
I choose the Trigger Setup to avoid that - in a 5.1 Setup - the Beolab turn off as soon as no Signal is sent (clicking Sound every time the Speakers are turned on and off again).
Thank you so much everyone for the excellent feedback, I've already learnt a lot more than I thought I would!
I'll have to take some time to go through the layout more carefully. Again thank you!
Wow!
This is so helpful!
is there a list or a range of recommended AV receivers for use with non Beovision?
If I replaced the Rotel in the diagram with the Marantz NR1604, would that do the trick?
also, what a shame re: The essence, I really loved the design, I'm heartbroken it won't integrate easily. :(
Cardinalsong: If I replaced the Rotel in the diagram with the Marantz NR1604, would that do the trick?
No - not really.
You will have to connect your devices to the receiver via HDMI (turntable-RCA) and run one single HDMI-out to the tv for the picture.
The BeoLab's connect to the receiver - as suggested in the post from Ralf/kallasr above.
Please consider that your setup - for tv/movies - would benefit from a center speaker.
