How badly is the sound degraded, if at all, by plugging the standard B&O speaker cables in & running them w/o plugging the Pentas into the wall?

It is not possible to run the Pentax through the amplifier in the bottom without power. You can bypass the amp or simply remove it (Petas will look better).

I have tried them with the amplifier in the fot, a beomaster 5500, icepower 250asp, icepower 250asx2, and icepower 50asx2.

The 50asx2 was not powerful enough, but on the other amplifiers I don't notice much different.

What kind of amp do you want to use on them?

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"

You want it simple, remove 5 nuts under the base, remove the base, another 5 nuts to be removed, next the amp incl. leads and last, 5 rods. Simple right?
