Hi Guys,
Does anyone know where I can find the correct cable for a Beogram 8000 tonearm (the really thin stuff) as I've managed to break a couple of them :-( I've tried google but I can't come up with anything suitable...
If not has anyone got a spare tonearm assembly?
Thanks,
Lee
That is not good news Lee.I have some pictures I will be posting later today (hopefully) of a disassembled BG8000 tonearm. I have one parts unit up in my attic that was in really bad shape. The tonearm also has a broken cable (among other problems) so I took it apart to see how the mechanisms work. I also looked into repairing the tonearm. It will not be easy. The wires are very delicate as you have found and are the type with a coated insulation. Getting replacement wire (thin magnet wire?) should be possible but the hard part is the repair. Trying to fix the break would be difficult and probably not be a good permanent fix. It would be better to run new wire for the tonearm. The problem with that is the tonearm head, with the connector for the cartridge, appears to be glued in place. I don't know how you would open it to attach new wires without damaging the tonearm (and connector).
Thanks for the info, and I look forward to your pictures... I'm absolutely gutted that its broken, I've only had it a week and it took me ages to save up enough cash to buy it :-( just my luck that it won't be an easy repair...
I posted some detailed pictures of the Beogram 8000 tonearm back on you starting thread as it is difficult to follow with the thread (here) broken into multilple, new threads.
You might be able to use something like this. However, as I mentioned in my earlier post, I don't know how you will be able to attach to the tonearm cartridge connector as that appears to be glued inside the tonearm. Depending on where the break is, you might be able to do a delicate repair but it will be a difficult task I think.
I would think coated magnet wire would be a good replacement. A really small gauge like 36 - 42. Here is a big spool of AWG 42.
That wire looks perfect, thankyou so much for your help. Now to figure out how to remove the cartridge socket.....
