Hello,
I have a Beosound 9000 and a Beosound 5 in one room. Further i have sevaral Masterlink connections whit the 1751 amplifier. No TV
The beosound 5 works perfect but now we like to play CD in the Beosound 9000.
Can anyone give me an advice how i have to configure this installation. Where do i have to connect the ML speakers.
I can config the Beosound 9000 as 1 2 or 0 but there is no reaction on the Beo 4. In other rooms over the Masterlink it funtions.
This was, and still is, a challenge as both the BS9k and BS5 would like to act as Audio Master. I believe the last sw version for the BS9k made it possible for it to act as a slave. If I remember correctly, this was only available for the mkIII - but I guess others on BeoWorld can pull this from the top of their heads?

Untill someone 'pulls this from his/her head', please consult page 30 in the userguide of the BS5 (on the B&O homepage).

Razlaw:What option do you have the 9000 set to?
Thanks for all the reactions.
I did read the manual but the option with the BS 9000 and the BS 5 in the same room is not given there.
Now I find out that the BS 9000 don’t react on the Beo 4. Over the link it response but not direct.
Probably the IR receiver ore has anyone a suggestion.

With BS9000 and BS5 in a Masterlink setup you must set BS5 to no audiomaster and BS9000 to A.OPT 1 (or 2 if you want to control videocommands via BS9000.
Looks like you have no Powerlink speakers connected which will result in BS9000 reset to A.OPT 0 (No ir reception).
You have your speakers connected via Masterlink and ML passives, right?
In this case a Powerlink dummy plug will help. Just a 7 PIN DIN plug with short circuit between pin 4 and 2.
Hope this helps
Stefan
No, you don`t need a dummy plug, because your audiomaster - BS3000 - should be set to A.OPT 0.
Your setup is a bit strange, because you have a videolink and an audiomaster in the same room. Usually you have audio- and videomaster in the same (main) room. But - why not...?
You have two BVs connected so videomaster (BV7) should be set to V.OPT 2 and link BV (10) set v.OPT 6 (to control audiocommands via BVs as well).
BS3000 set to A.OPT 0 and BS5 set to NO AUDIOMASTER. Reset the wholes system and it should work (BS3000 software must be N.MUSIC compatible).
Thanks! Only problem I have had with the strangeness of video link and audio master in same room, is if Beosound 5 is turned on directly at the Beosound 5 instead of with remote, music plays in the other room where the video master is.
I think my Beosound 3000 is N. Music capable. Prior to the BV10 and Beosound 5, I had just a pair of speakers in the room. They were connected to a Beoport and and an Active Kit, connected to a Mac and and N. Music accessed music from the Mac. Does that indicate that my 3000 has the correct software?
How do I reset the whole system?
Thanks again!
Sorry, to correct the last post, (edit function is not working) Before the BV10 and BS5, link room had active kit with speakers, main room had 3000 with TV. Both rooms connected by Masterlink to third room with a Mac and a Beoport connected to speakers in that room. I was able to access music on the Mac using N. Music. Does that mean my 3000 has the N. Music compatible software?

Normal behaviour. An ML setup expects audio- and videomaster (with Beolabs connected) in the same room, so, when you control your BS5 directly it will activate Beolabs connected to the master. Problem is, in your setup they are in different rooms...
Reset your system by disconnecting all devices from the mains for some minutes and reconnect them in a row with the videomaster connecting as the last one. But I think you won`t need to do that, because your setup is working properly...(?)
Razlaw:Tried settings as suggested. Seems yo work, but can not access Spotify with the Beo 4.
If you have Spotify assigned to A.MEM, what happens when you press A.MEM?
Did you try to press A.MEM (Spotify source) twice?
First of all ML on both bs9000 and bm5/bs5 together with all linkrooms use junctionboxes or ML box
then regarding option because you not have any videosystem from b&o you choose A.opt1 on bs9000 and you connect speakers in the same room to bs9000 (Active or passive thru beolink passive)
then you set bs5 to "No Audiomaster" cd,radio command is on bs9000 and n.music,n.radio command is on bs5
And in this setup you use n.music + go + 1 to choose spotify on beo4 (in some cases it needs more then one go+1 after n.music but b&o says they decide not to solved this sw timing issue

I am sorry, I missed this post. Just tried it. I do have Spotify assigned to A. Mem (A. Tape on older Beo 4) Without the BS 3000 it starts Spotify.
With the BS 3000 set to option 0 and BS 5 set to Audio Master Off, Pressing A. Mem turns TV on (no picture as it should be) speakers on, BS 3000 on displaying "A. TAPE" and the BS 5 stays dark and does not respond. pressing it twice has no effect.
That`s what I just read in the (updated) manual.
---------------
If AUDIO MASTER is set to NO, you must activate Spotify – provided that you have an account – by pressing LIST until N.MUSIC is shown in the Beo4 display and then you must press 1. To activate A.AUX, press LIST until N.MUSIC is shown in Beo4 display and then press 2.
If AUDIO MASTER is set to NO, you cannot use the CD Ripping Device as a CD-player.
-------------
So, I`d set Spotify t N.MUSIC, which makes sense, and try as described above.
Hi,
As earlier post you assign n.music to harddrive and n.music+1 to access spotify
Hello! Old thread revive because this information has been very useful for me (as well as one from the archives from 2010) and wanted to add info. I have the same BS9000/BS5 setup in a single room (no TV) and I have experimented with this a little and wanted to add something for anyone looking. My Beosound 9000 is MkIII with 3.3 software (does not have the 3.4 software for option 5-6).
Right now, I have connected these connected via Masterlink and speakers connected to Beosound 5. I set the Beosound 5 as Audiomaster, Option 6. The Beosound 9000 has infrared disabled on option 0, which is an audiomaster. For a few days now, it has been working very well. Beo4 remote behaves as below:
N.MUSIC -> Beosound 5/Beomaster 5 music library
N.RADIO -> Beosound 5 Internet radio library
A.MEM -> Beosound 5 Spotify
CD -> Beosound 5 CD ripper
LINK CD -> Beosound 9000 CDs (with CD 1 1 (CD/Track) on the BS5 display)
RADIO (or LINK RADIO) -> Beosound 9000 Tuner Presets (with RADIO 1 (or preset number) on the BS5 display
A.AUX -> Beosound 5 Behringer USB Dongle Aux input
Volume wheel/audio settings of course controlled by Beosound 5.
Downsides: No local control on the 9000 (cannot press a CD button and wake up the BS5 when walking by). Right now, I have one room only but I will get a second room eventually and then this will not work because if you do Link N.MUSIC from another room, I believe the Beosound 9000 N.Music will come on instead of the BS5 (or maybe worse yet, both). Also, the A.AUX on the 9000 is a bit better (less noise and more accurate) than the BS5 but it can't be selected - there is no LINK A.AUX that I can find. But, hey, for those with one room, try this configuration, you may get everything you want.
I have the 3.42 software on the way for my BS9000, which will allow it to be put into option 5/6. I may not install it, unless needed. I guess I can switch the roles (option 0 on the BS5, option 6 on the BS9000). The multiroom will work as the BS5 will serve out N.MUSIC and N.RADIO (and spotify with N.MUSIC-1 and A.AUX with N.MUSIC-2) is my understanding. Then, I will revert audio controls and speakers connected to BS9000 and lose my BS5 volume wheel and only use remote. It really like the wheel though :/
Can someone explain the magic that happens when a TV is installed? I found a nice BV8-32 recently and was going to pick it up but it had no Masterlink so I didn't bother. I guess I read BS5 as no audiomaster, BS9000 as A.OPT 0, and Beovision as V.OPT 2 (and speakers connected to the BV) results in the ability to use the volume wheel on the BS5 to control the TV, but it would seem that you probably can't serve out the N.MUSIC library from the Beosound 5 to the rest of the house as link rooms would try to get it from the BS9000. I can't quite wrap my head around it without a TV to touch hands on.

What do you mean the software is on the way? Is it a chip? Where did you order it from? Are you going to install yourself? Thanks!

I can explain, as this is exactly what I have in my main room. A BS9000 mk3 in A.Opt 0, A Beovision 7-40 in V.Opt 2, and a BS5 set to Audiomaster=no (all speakers in the room are connected to the BV7).
You can indeed use the wheel on the BS5 to control volume - the curved volume bar is no longer displayed on the BS5 screen, but the wheel works and you can see the volume reported on the TV display so it doesn't matter.
In link rooms you can access any of the main room sources in the same way as you do with a beo4 in the main room - this includes the N.MUSIC library on the BS5 (N.MUSIC - GO), Spotify (N.MUSIC - GO - 1), and BS5 A.AUX (N.MUSIC - GO - 2).
Hope this helps,
Martin.

Hi Razlaw,
Yes the s/w is on an chip.
v3.42 was the last release made available and adds MLGW compatibility and the ability to use the BS9000 in a link room (options 5 & 6).
Part number is 8344070.
Kind Regards,

Thanks! Is the chip something can be installed easily, or does it require a B and O tech to install? Is the part number the same for a Beosound 3000?

Officially this is a service tech install. Obviously you could install it yourself with the aid of the service manual but you really ought to take anti-static precautions whilst doing so to avoid any potential damage to either the chip itself or the BS9000, so if you're not familiar with these procedures or lack the necessary equipment then the small cost of getting a service technician to carry out the upgrade could prove a very worthwhile investment in comparison to a much larger repair bill if things go wrong.
The part number I quoted is just the latest software chip for the BS9000mk3. Each different product will have it's own entirely different software.
For the BS3000, N.MUSIC and N.RADIO support was introduced in software v2.0 (subsequently replaced by v2.12 which primarily fixed a number of bugs), then later, link room support (A.OPT 5 and 6) was introduced in v3.1.
The last list I have shows part numbers for both v2.12 and v3.1 chips so it might be that only later models of the BS3000 could be upgraded to v3.1 but you would need to check with a service centre to confirm whether this is the case.
Note that unlike the BS3200, there has never been a MLGW compatibility release for the BS3000 (although that doesn't necessarily mean it wouldn't work with the gateway, just that it hasn't been tested and is not an officially supported setup).
In theory, any BS3000 with N.MUSIC support should work in place of the BS9000 in the setup I outlined previously (BS3000 in A.OPT0, BV in V.OPT2, BS5 set to AudioMaster=no, all speakers connected to BV) but since I don't own a BS3000 I'm unable to confirm this for certain.
Razlaw:Thanks for all of the information! I will check with my local service center. My BS 3000 has N. Music but does not have option 5. Because I want to use Spotify on my Beosound 5 I have to have it set as Audio Master On. As such I can not get the system to work correctly if the 3000 is connected. I would like to have option 5 and 6 added to it so I could connect it. Thanks again!
Hi Razlaw, I've had a very quick read through of the previous posts where you have outlined your setup.
Given your BS3000 supports N.MUSIC, can you not put the BS3000 in a.opt 0, the BS5 in audiomaster=no mode, and use N.MUSIC -> GO -> 1 to select spotify?
You'll still have the issue of the BS5 controls starting playback on the BV in the other room, but I can't see any way around this as the expected setups are either with speakers connected to the audio master, or both the audio master and video master in the same room.
When I set the BS5 to Audiomaster No, Spotify disappears from the Beosound 5?
I solved the problem of the BS5 controls starting the other room. I mounted an Essence remote on the wall just below the BS5. Pressing it quickly activates N.Radio and long press activates N Music, in that room. Wheel controls volume in that room.
Razlaw:When I set the BS5 to Audiomaster No, Spotify disappears from the Beosound 5?
It shouldn't do. Spotify was unavailable in AM=no mode when the BS5 was originally launched, but this changed with a software update (a long time ago now - it was this change than triggered me to buy my BS5).
In AM=no mode, only N.MUSIC and N.RADIO sources are available from the beo4, so you can't map sources to RADIO, CD etc (these will be in use by your BS3000 anyway), and that's why you have the N.MUSIC -> GO -> 1 to select spotify, N.MUSIC -> GO -> 2 to select BS5 aux input etc...
Razlaw:I just checked my Beosound 5. You are correct. With Audio Master set to No, Spotify is still there. I did not know that had changed. My BS 3000 is disconnected at present but I will connect it again and try what you suggest. Thanks!
Thanks!
Excellent. Let me know how it works out.
The main limitation in this mode is that you can't use the CD ripper (if you have one) as a CD player (it'll still work fine for ripping CDs). But given you will have the BS3000 back in the setup that shouldn't matter
Razlaw:System works but with a few issues.
If you haven't already done so I would power everything off at the mains, then turn things back on one at a time (Videomaster and audiomaster first, then everything else) and see if that makes any difference to the odd behaviours.
I guess depending on the s/w version of your BS3000, some of these behaviours might be bugs in the N.MUSIC / N.RADIO implementation. There were quite a few bug fixes between v2.0 when N.MUSIC was added, and the later v2.12, so if you're on v2.0 that might account for some of the strange behaviours, and in any case all of these software releases will pre-date the BS5 so likely won't have been tested together by B&O.
If the service centre determine that your BS3000 can be upgraded to v3.1, and you proceed with this on the basis of gaining link room functionality, it might be worth trying it again in the configuration you've tried today with the new software to see if anything has improved.
Razlaw:Also, I can not use the Essence Remote as desired as a short press activates the BS 3000 radio instead of N. Radio and a long press activates CD in BS 3000 instead of N. Music.
Yes, I didn't really consider this, but you will have configured your essence remote to send RADIO and CD IR commands (and then mapped these sources on the BS5), given your BS5 is now looking for N.RADIO and N.MUSIC commands you'd need to change what the essence remote sends, but I don't think any of the IR modes on the essence remote will send N.MUSIC and N.RADIO commands
Oh well - I'm sorry it hasn't worked out for you but I guess it was worth a try!
Thanks for that!
been looking for a solution and yours works!
