Hi everyone. Hope you all had a great Christmas. I have a chance of some BL8000 speakers which are advertised with serial number starting 1187xxxx and after researching on this site am thinking they are mk1's. The information here is that mk2 is from 16992475. However the seller informs me they are mk2's from late 2004 and also checking on the Beocentral website the write up there implys the bass improvement is from number 10145230 - which does indeed make them Mk2's.
Which is correct- or should I even worry providing they are in good condition? Certainly the Beocentral write up seems to indicate the so called bass improvements is little more than marketing hype and that the mk1 may actually be the better speaker. Has anyone actually done a side by side listening test?
i know this has been discussed here before but any new advice or opinions would be great.
Thanks,
graeme.
If Beocentral said that, they are wrong..
1187xxxx Serial Number is from around 1997 and this makes them a Mk1 - no doubt about it.

Old speakers anyway.
I'd be much more interested in the condition of the drivers.
And in the overall condition, of course.
You should test these speakers, before you buy them!

There is a tv - and there is a BV
An easy way to differentiate between Mk1 and Mk 2 is the cable cover on the lower back. If it pushes in to open and close, the speakers are Mk1. If it requires a push close and a pull open, they are Mk2

Thanks Lee. So glad I enquired here first. Think I'll give them a miss, they are over 2 hours drive away to just go and have a look. They may well be in good condition visually but being given false info like that I am now more than a bit dubious.
Thanks to the rest of you guys for your advice too!
Have a great new year.
Graeme.
I have already contacted the seller. He has confirmed the serial numbers as already stated but still says they are mk2. Is there a definative list somewhere to prove when mk2 production started so I can show him. I'm guessing mk1 from 1997 even in good condition no more than £600.? Still want mk2 though if I'm honest mainly because of age.
Thanks for advice
