BeoLit 12: AirPlay via ethernet connection?

I have searched the forum for an answer but can't find any and my question does not seem to apply to the wifi topics so I will start a new thread.

I would like to connect my BeoLit 12 to my network via ethernet and use it as an AirPlay speaker.

However the speaker does not appear on my iPhone as an AirPlay speaker when connected via ethernet (but does so when on wifi).

The ethernet connection for the BeoLit 12 is on the same subnet as the wifi for the iPhone.

I can update the software on the BeoLit 12 via ethernet just fine (though it is already updated).

 

What can be wrong here? Any tips? Also, I assume I would only need to have the "power on" button lit and not the wifi symbol button when used for ethernet (or is this same button for network including ethernet?)

Hi! 

I am using my Beolit 12 just like you, since using Airplay has too many dropouts. But you do need to press the wifi symbol as well to have the BL12 connect to the ethernet network. You can even try reseting the BL12 so that it does not have any wifi settings stored. Then just connect the ethernet and press the "wifi" symbol on the BL12 and it will connect. Works for me:=)

Good luck with Airplay! There is a very good reason why its successor the 15, will use Bluetooth.

And the reason is....to please Android users!

If you switch between wired and wireless connectivity you need to turn off the blit12 between doing so for the connection type to be recognised.

The Airplay chipset that Apple forces on 3rd party vendors still uses 2.4 Ghz Wifi which is in many environments with multiple wifi networks just to slow to handle airplay.

Its not that 5Ghz chips dont exist but somehow they dont make it to third party vendors, therefor the shift to bluetooth. Apple is acting stupid here, not sure why they are curbing third party vendors in.
