Beoworld's Visit to Struer 2012

Well. I guess that s it.. Suitcases are packed, soon to be loaded and in an hour or so i ll be on my way . What a superb experience the whole thing has been.. Superb is in fact an understatement.. for a newbee like me, it was a mind blowing eye opener..  It will take time to let it all soak in, but one thing is sure... i ll never look at a  B&O item in the same way

Lee and Jette, Thank you for making it all happen.. You ve made one of my dreams come true, and painted my sky with Beostars... and THAT is priceless.

Thanks to KeithI can show up with my first picture of no. 14 in the group photo. I am just relaxing in front of the B&O factory after my little ride of 670 km from BI in D to Struer in DK. That was at High noon on Monday. Now I am still digesting not only a few fine meals but quite a few events too ... Peter the biker

Before I explain the story behind the photo I would like to take this opportunity too thank Lee, Jette, and the rest of the B&O team who made this visit so special for Barbara and I, if I were to compare this with anything it would be like visiting Manchester United Stadium and meeting the players.

Walking around the different locations and meeting so many interesting people who were very willing to answer any questions we had to ask, try doing this with Apple.

About this photo, late last year l order the new BV7-40 3D tv and at the same time l also ordered a cover for the BV7 because in the past when l have any building work taken place in the house l always have to find very large plastic bags to cover all my B&O equipment but with such a large set l could not find anything large enough to fit. My local dealer is B&O of Watford who l have known for over 12 years having spent  time and money up grading my B&O equipment over the years, my contact with the shop is Paul one the directors and having read stories about very bad dealers on this forum l can safely say Paul is one of the good guys and nothing is too much trouble for him as l found out yesterday to my cost.

 Going back to my cover the BV7 turned up but with no cover some weeks later it turned up but l was told it was the wrong size (Paul knew l was going on this visit) weeks went by still no cover but what l did not know was it had come in and Paul went to the trouble of having an embroidered inscription attached marking my visit to the Farm this was done in the UK by Paul and sent over to Struer to be presented too me by Tue yesterday.

This came as a complete surprise to me and more so that Barbara was told about this over 2 months ago, who says women cannot keep secrets! when l was called down to meet Tue and to receive the present it was like when l was 15 years old and walking onto the stage at school to receive my prefects badge from my headmaster and to shake his hand it was such a shock (a nice one) with this happening it was the icing on the cake.

During our stay in Struer we meet so many very interesting forum members from across the world including Steve, Lee, Guy and Keith to name but a few, we will have very fond memories of our visit and to finish up we are numbers 6 & 8 in the group photo.

Delighted to hear you have all had such a good trip. I have been on three trips there, each better than the time before. B&O are superb hosts and exceedingly generous. I am sure there are many stories to hear and sights to describe and i look forward to meeting up with some of you in the future. Busy making sure the Triumph is up to the next trip!!

On Wednesday morning during our meeting with Jens Harder (Project Manager, Home Automation -- Product Definition) and Brian Bjorn Hansen (Senior Manager, R&D) many items related to 3rd party integration were discussed including updates to the Masterlink Gateway and other ways to integrate other partner products.

Jen stated that they produced an "Ideas Catalogue" which is updated every 6 months and normally only provided to the dealers, but Jens has kindly agreed to make it available to Beoworld members. The catalogue is in PDF format and 4.6MB in size and can be downloaded from the server HERE

Please provide Jens & Brian feedback on this thread..

On Tuesday morning the group spent time in the B&O internal store where the new store designs are developed. On product which was demonstrated was the new BeoPlay A3 which is an interested design and was highlighted earlier in this thread,

At the end of this Idea guide, Please confirm that absence of a specific mention of BV9 in the integration of an OPPO 93 BD player is an oversight, as BV9 contains a 50" BV4 panel and a BS3

Rolling home ...

the first 110 km to Varde near Søren Hammer after a late start in Struer.

The first 40 km my bicycle felt a little bit wobbly but not due to my luggage but due to a nearly flat tyre. It was the valve which needed a little screw turn.

Yesterday I looked in a B&O shop north of Struer meeting quite a few of beoworlders sharing their admiration of marvellous vintage stuff.

Now I am hungry maybe like the hemenexes who planned a draisine tour and the elephants who also planned a tour this morning.

So far Sue has had a lobster tail and I have had a glass of the local beer ... and we about to venture out for another glass or two.

Well.. I got home this afternoon after a superb crossing from Esbjerg to Harwich with fond memories of an excellent trip.

I'd just like to say a huge thank you again to everyone at Bang & Olufsen who made this trip possible and so thoroughly enjoyable in many different ways.  Each and every time the trips get even more impressive - and one thing which many people found out for their first time this year is that Danish hospitality is second to none, from the people on the factory floor right through to the CEO of Bang & Olufsen himself.

Finally - I'd like to thank the BeoWorld Members for being such wonderful companions.  A group of people from many different backgrounds, all with impeccable manners and an absolute pleasure to be with.   A real credit to this website.  Thanks guys (and girls!).  For those I didn't get enough time to sit and talk to at length, please accept my apologies - the hours passed like my watch was on fast-forward and I'd have been happy to have spent another week in your company!

I hope you've all arrived home with many happy memories - and for those already still travelling, I wish you a safe journey.

Hi  IM back home in lanzarote after a relaxing train journey from struer to copenhagen then a flight to lanzarote.id like to thank beoworld and bang and olufsen  for a wonderful trip and superb hospitality and the great company. im sure you will all join me in also thanking keith for posting all the photos ready for us to view  so quickly.

We really enjoyed the painters' house/museum ... and the house of their neighbours - a beautiful setting.

We also went out at 4:30am to the top tip of Denmark to watch the sun rise over the meeting of the two seas :-)

 

 

Both Sue & I want to thank B&O, Tue, Jetta, Lee, and Keith for all the organising.

And we also want to thank numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 for being such great companions on this marvellous adventure

After leaving Varde on Saturday I enjoyed another sunny trip south. After 110 km I arrived in Tønder, where I found out that holy mass on Sunday only would be at 4 pm. Thus I decided to add only 20 km to Niebüll where I found a hotel close to a church.

On Pentecost Sunday after mass it was enough time for a trip by train to Sylt, a well crowded but nice island. Today I rode or relaxed on to Brunsbüttel at one end of the Nord- Ostseekanal, getting a bed close to the sluice between Elbe and canal. Tomorrow I shall recollect my forgotten Serenata at the barbers' shop and at falling temperatures I will be home maybe on Thursday.

Up to now it was a inspiring time especially in Struer thanks to you all, a nice training and a good recreation for me.

As promised some pictures of my trip to Struer.

  • B&O branding in 1st class area of the train from Copenhagen tot Struer

 

  • Welcome with goodiebag with small gift from Beoworld and B&O and the official program

 

  • Smallest church of Denmark on the island Venø where B&O had taken us for a nice dinner, not in the church but in a restaurant Big Smile

 

  • Sales # display for Beosound 8 and Beolit 12 at the main entrance of 'The Farm'

The trip was remarkable and the funniest thing happened to me when we were shown the A3 iPad dock. I told the B&O person (Heidi or Iza) that I have seen it before and that it was a great product. She then gave me a bit of a funny strange look. The next day Tue talked about the A3 iPad dock as well and told that they have just introduced it. Until today I can not recall where I have seen the product before ... so I must have dreamed (!!) that I had it in my hands and seen it live before coming to Struer Unsure Big Smile

That's what (looking forward to) this BEO visit has done to me. And btw the iPad dock is great.

Best wishes to you both - and glad you are safely home - we have had a nice weekend in Copenhagen, and will be heading south tomorrow - we are thinking of tracing Peter's bicycle tire tracks :-)

That may be a trip with a good deal of wind from the wrong side. This morning I ordered some north wind, but two guys in the same hotel wished a strong breeze from the west and they got it. As I wanted to look at some relatives near Bremen I had to deal with it for 147 km. Big surprise: no problems. Practicing the last fortnight helped...

Now only 70 miles to Buffalo, no, to my home...

The BV9 is no longer available.

The ideas catalogue is intended for dealers to promote current products.

OMG. I never thought for one minute that the new ICE from BD would look like that.... how romantic.. Now, do you know if these carriages will soon be equiped with any Beoplay V1 ?  I hope these will get certified to use the Eurotunnel and come to London.. I ll cancel my trips on Lufthansa  and will use that specific new service from Deutsche Bundesbahn from now on..

Just 2 little statements about design in Danmark

The first found at a parking lot in Jylland consisting of hemp wound up as a rope fixed to a branch and two logs of wood, one bigger to stand on, one smaller attached to the rope, so you can take in your hand and swing and swing and swing ...

One log on the bottom

one log fixed to the rope

And now it is swing time.

Let us cross a loudspeaker with a washing machine or an old fashioned megaphonic rocket ...

The sound must have been incredible ...

But it needed an additional species to cross with:

a good looking lamp out of the tradition of the 4 or 5lampers of the late 20ies.

et voilà: A BeoLab 5 is born ...

Thank you for your nice photos Peter, DK in May and with sunny weather, is one of the most enjoyable experiences in the world, and then on a bike, even more so, after a whole day on the bike, everything you eat tastes better, and the first Tuborg is like nectar from heaven.Big Smile I hope to do a bike tour in DK, with my Mexican wife and our son someday.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.
