Hi there

I have found a pic of the sound system, and am impressed by what initially just looks like a little sound bar that extends. can anyone explain the different parts etc?

Hi Chris,

my review of the press launch last year (posted here on Beoworld) showed the same thing.  Under the 'sound' section' there is also a brief description of the drivers etc.

I thought you'd responded to the thread but it was a while ago.

Dave.

I don't remember it Dave, the summer can be a very busy timeErm..

looks very impressive though, it always baffles me why a mockup of this sort of thing can't be on hand to show folk(and the doubters) what your really paying all that extra money for. If you look at the other pictures and read the comments by the "journalist" you can feel an almost inevitable negative slant in their comments.

When you see it close up and exposed, you can really sense the engineering that went into it.  It's pretty complicated.  I would have thought that things like this should be available in dealerships to show what goes into making B&O what it is.

agree Dave we all like to see there is engineering beauty under the skin and B&O should exploit this as everyone is a geek on how things work...

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

It would certainly put a sharp end to the "it's just a Samsung in a pretty frame" brigade

Indeed:

"They seemed to pump out a decent sound, although you could opt for a cheaper 4K telly and spend the rest on a really good set of cinematic surround sound speakers."

And there by neglecting to factor in that extra cost into their comparisons.

The only equivalent that I have seen that seems to have comparable speakers (in size) is the Sony.  And that looks ugly ! Because the speakers are on the side - thus adding to the width X 2, and also ugly in having the cones exposed.

I have tried many times to get my sons to factor in the cost of sound bars, decent speakers, 5.1 decoders, et cetera to their "but Dad that's so much more than a Samsung" ... and failed to win the day, although they accept some of the logic of my case.

The component where the price becomes really debatable with them is the cost of movement i.e. motorised stands.

Now I think that's part of the magic of B&O ... but it is hard to justify in an economic sense.  And to be honest I think some times its there because B&O designers have the "we do because we can" attitude.
