Hey!

Got my first nice but older bv and trying to connect my ASUS pc to it.

- I´ve connected with DVI cable from computer to the DVI on BV

- I´ve set computer output to 720

- I´ve went to connections on BV set AV 3 (PC) and HDTV to DVI-I and stored options

- Turned of and on the TV while having PC activated with no result.

The only thing that happens is that when activating TV by pressing PC on the beo4 mk1 the screen in the PC "feels" something and changes to 720, weird???

I´m hopeing to watch movies via the PC in the near future and im also hopeing to get sound to the TV as well. I´ve read that the dvi just transports picture.

Grateful for any advice, Robert

Try different setting for hertz, 50 or 60.

just a guess, but this worked for me before

Or instead of choosing 720p try the resolution, maybe 1366x768 etc.

Read manual for possible resolutions via DVI

Yes, on a BV7 Mk3.

My older Macbook Pro (2008) has a DVI connection for video as well as an optical output for audio.

I use a DVI to HDMI adapter and I select 1920X1080p 60hz for resolution.

For audio, I use an optical to coaxial converter (bought from Monoprice).

I set the Beovision to use HDMI for video and SPDIF for audio.

This configuration works perfectly. When the handshaking is done, I select FORMAT 1 on the Beo4 to have a complete screen.

I have a more recent Macbook Pro with Retina Display. This one has a HDMI socket, so both audio and video can be sent with the same cable. For this laptop, I set my Beovision to use HDMI for audio as well as video  .

Both machines have also Windows 7 installed in a Bootcamp partition and the same configuration works as well with the BV7.

Best regards,

Jean

Thanks for sharing your experience Jean but I meant "connection between a laptop and a bv 7 with dvi only without the beosystem 3".

Hi Robert

Is there a combination of keys on the laptop that you have to press to get the output changed from the laptop screen to an external screen. You can usually have ether the laptop screen, the external screen or both. On most laptops you have to press something like the FN key and one of the F keys! Or some other combination. That certainly works for the older VGA ouputs on laptops.

Hey, sorry and thanks everybody for your inputs...

You  cannot imagine how stupid I felt when I noticed I was plugging vga cable to the vga on the bv instead of dvi-i Whistle.

Well, I have now ordered a dvi - hdmi adapter from Steve and i will simply connect a normal hdmi cable from computer to the adapter stuck in the dvi-i on tv and see if it works.

And because of dvi-i only sending picture I'll connect a suitable cable from headphones out on the computer to rca on tv and hope for the best :)

I'll get back to you all when tested, might take a week or two :)

To use the RCA, you will need to use the AV4-input. :)

"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
