Hi,

I am toying with the idea of getting a MLGW or Beolink Gateway, but in one room, one of the TV isn't fully compatible, in the sense that it cannot pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands to the ML.

I was thinking of adding a Beolink Active box to this room, with an IR eye.

The Beolink active box with an IR eye would be set to Option 0 and no speakers would be connected to it. The purpose of this box would only be to pass the LIGHT and CONTROL signals from the Beo4 to the ML.

I am wondering if that idea would work, especially, would the LIGHT and CONTROL signals still be transferred in Option 0.

Thanks!

How could lintronics help?

What would be the setup?

A Beolink active box can indeed be used with a MLGW. However, most Beolink active boxes floating around do not have the most recent software -- unless you are buying a new one. The BeoLink active box might need to have the software/chip updated in order to handle LIGHT and CONTROL commands. I have that issue right now with two BeoLink 3500 link speakers that I have in bathrooms. In order to get the BeoLink 3500 speakers to handle LIGHT and CONTROL commands, I would need to get the software updated.

I checked the MLGW product compatibility guide. The software version you should need for the BeoLink Active would be version 1.6.

Yes, that's right, it would need software 1.6 according to the MLGW documentation.

If that was the case, what I am really wondering is could the LIGHT + CONTROL signal go through even when the box is in option 0?

Option 0 would not transfer any commands. I believe that you could achieve what you want by setting it to Option 6.

you're eye in the beolink active room would need to be able to received commands.

if you only intend to control it with an app or with an automation system it can remain in option 0.

any IR signal you want to send it requires that it be in an option to receive an IR command.  If it's

in a room close to another system and you worry about spill over, use option 4.  I like option 4 for

link rooms and where there is a chance a product could receive an unintended command.

and.. . get the BLGW as it is far better and more advanced than the MLGW.  Also, I don't think

you'll be seeing software updates for the MLGW any longer.  The BLGW however will continue

to be updated and will soon have an app that supports 2 way feedback for lights, cameras, etc.

good luck!  BLGW is seriously under-rated in the portfolio to me.  it's a superb product that

most dealers don't understand and therefore don't push!

p.

Lintronic box connected to a Beolink video or BL converter should do it. If your link room has Masterlink, install a junction box with a second ML cable with plug, connect it to a BL device and a Lintronic box with ir eye as described :

http://www.lintronic.dk/AppNote_BeoLink.pdf

You can just program LIGHT and CONTROL commands (the box even supports function_ commands).

These commands will be sent via Masterlink to your ML/BLGW.

Audio- and video commands will be received and sent by your linkroom TV.

Should also work with the less expensive LIN-138 box (half the prize...)

As far as I know only  option setting commands will be received in Option 0.

Hope this helps

You would still need a B&O product capable to receiving LIGHT and CONTROL commands. The MLGW recognizes the B&O products as nodes on its network. I don't think that the MLGW would recognize the Intronic box as a node.

@MJM

Option 4 is a great idea in case Option 0 doesn't work.

Also I would prefer a BLGW even though I do not own any NL device, but as that might change one day... ;-)  How ever I might settle for a MLGW if I can get a very cheap one.

@StUrrock and stephan

I now understand now how the Lintronic box can help. If the Beolink Active solution worked fine, that'd be a bit cleaner as it would mean there's one box to hide instead of 2, but on the other hand the intronic could be use to control devices.

Thanks.

Might I suggest what I have done in many similar installations where either the house is pre-wired, serious budget or working with mixed products..

Grab a MLGW or BeoLink Gateway. Grab a newer model ML/MCL amp or BeLink Active kit. Borrow/buy a single B&O IR eye Puc. Put it on the Gateway network with the IR eye then unplug it. Return/put up the IR. Hide the box you choose to use. Done. You can keep the kits in a rack etc. at that point because the Gateway will now control it. Choose a Android or iDevice and you can control the room the way like.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

Thanks beomegaman but what I am trying to achieve is control the MLGW from this room with the beo4 rather than controlling the music in this room from the MLGW app.

This room has an older MX TV that doesn't pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands to ML. So I was thinking of using a beolink active or passive in the same room with no speakes attached but with an IR receiver, hoping it'd do the trick.

Ok, if you have an old MX connected to a Beolink Video via AUDIO AUX LINK socket, it can pass LINK LIGHT commands.

I had that function, when I upgraded my Link-MX (MCL system) to ML system with a two way AV9000 as a videomaster.

Even LIGHT timers via my BS7000 as audiomaster worked without problems.

LINK LIGHT commands will be detected as LIGHT commands through Masterlink.

I`m not sure about LINK CONTROL commands and how they could be sent from Beo4 (LINK and CONTROL are both soft buttons...?)

That`s why option 4 wouldn´t work as suggested before I`m afraid.

Unfortunately, the MX isn't that old, it isn't a 7000, it's a 8000 while is ML.

Download the Beoworld app at http://appstore.com/beoworld - Now with direct photo upload and emoticons.

I was advocating using the passive or active as the passer of commands only with the app. You won't need to connect any speakers for it to be a simple relay via the app. If you must have Beo 4 etc there is no other way than to have a IR exposed until you upgrade the TV.

Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there

i test today my beovision 9 in option 0 - and the bv9 transferred the light commands to the mlgw. so maybe a beolink active in option 0 also makes it! (with the right sw level)

Why not downgrade your TV and connect it with a t1611 to ML? Second had MX are at least around here available and cheap.

Beosound 5 Encore + Beosystem 5500 + S45.2; BV7-40 MKV + BL7.1 + BL14.4+ AppleTV4; various link rooms with MCL2 A or MCL2 A/V + RL60.2 / CX100 / CX50 & Cona  / IWS2000; BG4000; Beosystem 1200 + BV1600.

Hi! I'm reopening this thread, 5 years later!

I now have 2 Beolink Active with software version 1.6 which is the version that is supposed to be full compatible with the Beolink Gateway and Masterlink Gateway...

- Using the Beo4, I can perfectly call and control the main room souces

- Using the Beolink App, I can also control the speakers connected to those Beolink Active

- However, they don't transfer the LIGHT and CONTROL commands to the MasterLink 🤔

I'm pretty sure there's a magic command, like A.OPT something that should allow this, anyone knows?

hi phil!

yes there is a magic command on beolink active with sw 1.6:

and its working also in option 0!

Control must be made by a one-way remote control (BL1000, Beo4 or Beo5).

To access a test function, the Beolink Active or Beolink Passive must be in standby mode.

With the STOP command or by local operation, the chosen test function can be skipped anytime.
By entering an illegal command or a numeric value outside the area, the current test function is left in the same way as with the STOP command

Purpose:

To Enable or Disable the function:

Reroute all LIGHT and CONTROL commands to ML

This function is used if 3rd party system is to be controlled by B&O remote through Beolink Active or Beolink Passive and MasterLink GateWay (MLGW)

Only one (max. two) products in a room must have this setting to ON.

Three or more products with this setting to ON in same room,

can cause jamming/delays/malfunction on ML !!!

Would this also work with the Beolink Gateway? I have both a two way MCL setup and an ML setup. In the MCL rooms I was planning to do the exact same thing with actives. I believe LIGHT is a one way only command -MCL Beomasters do not respond to it, and LC1s are one way. Is the LIGHT IR sequence not the same coming from a BL5000 in two way mode?
