As the new house I'm moving into already has standard speaker cables installed under the floor from the front to the the rear of the living room, it seems a shame not to use these for a slick setup. I plan to run a pair of BeoLab 6000s as rear channels, via the line ins. What will I miss out on by not using the powerlink connectors? Obviously I can't chain them together, but that's not a problem as separate cables are already being run to the rear left/right. I'm guessing that the only the difference is the speakers won't power on/off instantly, but after a small delay on sensing the input signal. Is this right or am I missing something?

Powering on is nearly instantaneous, so that isn't much of a nuisance. A bigger problem especially for rear channel usage is that they might switch off during use (with relays clicking), as the rear channels can be quite silent for long periods.
Another problem might be that the speaker cables most probably are not coaxial and might pick up interference if you use them for line level signals.
I guess the answer is that you should try it out anyway - it could work satisfactorily, and if not, all you've lost is a little time and money for the connectors / adapters.
