My wife bought me a Beogram 8000 for Xmas, bless her! Unfortunately both cartridges or styli are pooched. Ebay has them occasionally for $400+. Too rich for my blood. Are other MMC cartridges interchangeable? Or can any other members recommend a repair person or dealer that can hook me up? I'd have to spend too much and find out the turntable doesn't even work.... Thanks from a brand new member!
Welcome to Beoworld you lucky Man. I have to buy all of my B&O stuff.
The Beogram 8000 came with an MMC20CL normally. However, other cartridges such as MMC20EN etc will fit. The ones that won't fit are the MMC1-5 range. If you look at the 'products' section under 'accessories' and 'Beogram cartridges' you can look at the range of cartridges.
Do the cartridges still have the cantilever attached (the tube/rod holding the diamond)? If yes, they can be retipped by a couple of places.
Buying 'used' cartridges via eBay for example can be false economy unless they are very cheap as they eventually suffer from suspension failure causing severe distortion. When the cartridge is retipped, this is also repaired bringing it back to as new.
Axel in Germany is an expert with these for retipping and you can contact him via his website as well as look at his services and prices. Owning a classic B&O turntable is not a cheap hobby!

It may not be listed but I believe he does have replacement Ruby cantilevers if you need one for the MMC20CL.
This is an exceptional turntable worth spending some money on. It is prone to some problems as all vintage equipment is. The Tacho Disc to control speed can fail but improved replacements are available from member 'Dillen' as is a capacitor kit in case of electrical failures. It will undoubtedly need a good internal clean and lubrication due to age. Especially for the tonearm assembly and tracking.
Keep us updated.
Dave.
I have a MMC 20 with the cantilever snapped off. Can a new cantilver and tip be installed? I still have the broken cantilever that broke off. Can it be fix? I want to have it as a back up.
