there used to be a guy selling gold top plates to the Beo4 on eBay but he seems to have run out. Anyone know where I could get one?

I'm pretty sure these are still available from B&O as a spare part - I seem to remember my dealer was replacing the top of one of his customers beo4s when I walked into the store recently.
I ordered one some time ago for a client - I think the part number is 3458212, and from memory, the cost was around 10 to 15GBP.
