Hi all Smile

I wondered if anyone knew how the 'Bang & Olufsen' inscription is applied to the panel speakers - and what it is formed from?

It feels and looks like it could be some form of vinyl or mylar?

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!

Interesting! I have never looked that closely! I had thought it was etched but you seem to be right that it is raised! No idea I am afraid!

Yes - I also used to think it was etched or engraved in the steel - until a closer look revealed that the letters were raised. It must be some kind of transfer lettering. I remember that someone here on Beoworld used transfer lettering (like Letraset, or something similar) when mounting new steel panels on the speakers.

It is indeed an opaque plastic decal.  It's very, very thin which gives it the impression of being etched.

I've seen people take a rubbing of the lettering and give it to a sign writer who has laser cut it from a thin sheet of vinyl. It worked well enough.

They are transfers, I'm afraid.

Take care not to use too much liquid cleaner or they will "float" off, as I found out to my cost, in my early days with these.

I think Leslie did his panels this way, I have a set for the Beovox 3000's I have that I got from him, waiting for me to get around to finishing the speakers and apply them.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Thanks Smile

Are the originals likely to be dry transfer type decals (like Letraset) that use pressure sensitive adhesive? Or adhesive backed vinyl?

As you say they are very thin indeed which does give the impression of etching.

The word from the horse's mouth is that they are in fact screen printed Smile
