ARCHIVED FORUM -- March 2012 to February 2022READ ONLY FORUM

Hi,
I find it a pain that it remains impossible to edit or post pictures in Safari, since iOS8 and Yosemite were released. Even email subscription does not work.
This problem has persisted since September, and nothing has yet been done to fix it.
Firefox does work but it is not what I regularly use.
I reported the issue several times off-line, even to the webmaster, to no avail.
Anybody else please?
Yes, the trick works, and with Firefox agent too! Ta Phil!
Jacques
I agree this is irritating, I am currently using the 10.2.2 Beta and it still doesn't work for me so I can't see a fix coming in the near future.
This is the sole reason for the lack of pictures I have uploaded recently and I am reluctant to change browser just for one website really.

I am not sure what this has got to do with Bang & Olufsen, enlighten me oh wise ones
I totally agree!
I am hesitating to update the iOS of my main iPad for that reason only.
It would take my only chance to edit a message away.
It is not possible on my Mac/Safari or on my (fully updated) iPadMini/Safari.
Is the problem the software of Apple, or is it the way the Beoworld webpage works???

There is a tv - and there is a BV
It has nothing to do with B&O, but it restricts what can be posted or edited on this forum.
I find that Safari on an iPad is now very limited for posting here. No editing, no live links in posts, no pictures.
I often use an iPad for convenience and then have to go and use Firefox on an iMac to revisit the posts for editing or for putting in proper links or posting pictures.

Strange comment, this is surely relevant to those who use this forum everyday?
Not everything has to be directed linked to B&O. It was just an observation about the lack of editing and picture tools in the latest apple software.
Beoworld app with direct photo upload and emoticons.
The problem is that the pop-up menu that contains the Edit function, among others, is created on the fly by some complicated JavaScript, and the latest updates on Safari break it. As far as I understand, this part of the forum software is closed source and there is very nearly nothing anybody can do about it (outside of Telligent, who probably are not interested as this version is not supported any more). I don't have a Mac so I have no way of studying that any further to see if this could be remedied by something at the browser end.
As a sort-of-solution, if you really need to edit your posts in Safari, you can actually go straight to the editing page without the popup menu; the URL is
http://archivedforum2.beoworld.org/forums/EditPost.aspx?PostID=119459
...where '119459' is the post ID you can find out by hovering over the little gray "page" on the left of your nickname on the post title. I suppose that is exactly what Phil's Beoworld app does.
(if you find the above too complicated or outright silly, then I am sorry, but that is all I can personally do to help)
EDIT: I'm not editing this just to wind you up. I updated the post ID to the URL above, not yet known at the time of the original post composition.

Yes, this is clearly a Beoworld bug.
chartz: Yes, this is clearly a Beoworld bug.
I'd call it a Safari feature - that is the thing that has changed and broken the experience - but that is mostly semantics...
You know, sometimes web designers have to adapt.
I sent them two emails to talk about the issue, but had no answer from them. Keith told me he could do nothing about it, and I believe him!
The bug was reported during public beta testing, so if memory serves that was in July. I also reported to Apple but I am not holding my breath.
The web designers owe it to Mac and iThingies users to make it right, period.
I use many, many different forums of various technologies and Beoworld is he only one posing me (us) such a problem.
Thanks for the tip Mika by the way!
Ok. In that case, does anybody know a good way of aligning the rip fence on a Titan TTB554TAS table saw.... only joking

What?
Tom, I guess I'm not alone, am I?
It isn't possible to say wether it's a problem with Telligent or Safari. It all depends if the problem comes from a malformed Javascript or a buggy Javascript engine.
I have just tested Beoworld with Chrome and it works fine. So there's a workaround on the Mac (Chrome) and a solution on IOS8 (Using the App).
Hi Phil,
I actually do use and love the app (thanks again, especially for the instant photo option we don't have here!) and Firefox on my Macs. You say workaround, mmm... yes exactly!
Safari doesn't use Java, I think, does it?
It's not Java, it's Javascript, which are different technologies and languages.
Safari and Chrome both use WebKit as their rendering engine, but they've got different Javascript engines.
Oops. My mistake. Javascript de-activated and there's no more blue beachball - or anything else for that matter. So Safari webkit is the problem then?
I did email Telligent in August but had no answer.
This said, it works fine with anything else...
chartz:I did email Telligent in August but had no answer.
As I said, they have dropped support for this currently running version of Community Server some years ago. I'm quite sure they are not going to do anything about it (except perhaps for a hefty fee).
I myself have suggested adding a static (not JS-based) "Edit post" button or link on the posts, but I don't know if it is possible within the part of CS that can be tweaked. Keith is the only one who has any access under the hood of the forum software.
Found a good workaround, but my previous post got moderated. So trying again...
- Go to Safari > Preferences > Advanced and tick the last box (Show Develop Menu).
- A new menu appears next to the Help menu in the menu bar
- Just before you want to edit something, do Develop > User Agent > Chrome Mac
Then Beoworld will work fine until you close the window.
Thanks Philippe!
(another shortcoming of the forum software: it doesn't indicate anywhere whether something has gone into the moderation queue. Somebody has to remember to go and check every now and then.)
Great!
And it works equally fine with the Firefox agent! Tested fine on other websites (eBay for instance) and I think I'm going to keep it that way.
Now, what about iOS?
PhilLondon: I have just tested Beoworld with Chrome and it works fine. So there's a workaround on the Mac (Chrome) and a solution on IOS8 (Using the App).
A workaround is a something one might use, untill the 'problem' is solved!
I am seldom using my Mac (Mini). The iPad is my 'allday working tool' - by far.
In fact - talking Beoworld - I only go to my Mac, when I want to upload pictures.
And I would rather not use the app on the iPad, because it would mean swiching from the app to the browser and back, when I do a research for my posts.
And changing to another browser just beause of 'this Beoworld issue' - well, I reasly don't know if that should be the solution?
My 'workaround' is not to update my iPad - because in the Safari version of my prior iOS version the button still works fine.
