Can't edit on an iPad so here's is 1.5 local dimming, which in reality is simply Dynamic Contrast.

In a very dark scene if somebody is holding candle or torch, a large rectangle appears horizontally to light that section. Edge lit, not locally lit. Until they go fully local, or OLED I'm staying well away.
Hmm, that does certainly not look nice.
I did thought that the 75" would be just like the 85". Even though I have not seen the 85" in dark rooms yet.
What a shame. Better wait then.

Hi Chris,
I have myself a Beovision 7-55 mark II (3D). The panel is made from Samsung and is called LTA-55 HQ-10. This is a custom-made panel and Samsung has never used this panel in their own TV:s. The only brand who used the panel a short time was Toshiba in a TV model in 2011 called ZL1.
This panel has 512 dimming zones. My dealer have told me the following regarding Avant 75:
Screen information Avant 75:
TFT LCD Direct Type LED Backlight, Local Dimming divided into 180 zones of 4 LED´s in each zone in total 720 LED´s. (7-55: 512 zones with 3000 Led´s)
Response time (grey to grey): typical 6 ms (7-55: 4 ms)
Contrast Ratio (centre of the screen): Typical 5000:1 (7-55: 5000:1)
Luminance of white (centre of the screen): Typical 500 cd/m2 (7-55: 500cd/m2).
SO: The tecnical specifications for the 7-55 Mark II is clearly better than the Avant 75. But the Avant HAS the same screen-type as the 7-55. (Avant 75 has Direct LED vs Edge led as the Avant 55).

Could you please tell me what panel is in my bv7-40 3d mark 6s,as they are backlit led.

55”: Ultra High-Definition (4K), edge-type LED panel with 1.5 local backlight dimming
75”: Ultra High-Definition (4K), direct type LED with 2D local backlight dimming
85”: Ultra High-Definition (4K), direct type LED with 2D local backlight dimming My dealer had two 75" delivered today, I look forward to see it set up. They have a 85" but it is too big to sit close to. I am curious about the 75" model but the 55" I already have is quite good too. And the 1.5 local dimming is really not an issue for me during movie watching, it works really well on the newer 55" panels than the ones that was available when 7-55 was in production. The reason for 2.0 dimming on 75/85" is probably more related to how big the screen is and that light would not be very evenly distributed over such a big screen. (The picture example Christ shown that was over-exposed is not even of an B&O TV.)Sometimes I actually prefer the screen of my V1-40 since it is more "real" than a local dimming screen. For example, watching the menu system on a Avant 85" shows light shadows around the lettering since it lights up where there is things to "shed some light on". But on a screen without local dimming all black will look equal all over the screen and that is actually not bad, just a little less contrast.

Ah, well, I guess if I would do the same with a 7-55 I would see auras around light objects but not as wide...It is a strange thing to do.
I am considering a new TV and had my heart set on a nearly new Avant 55 or 75". Following some online research I am now less inclined to go for the Avant as the screen technology seems to be lagging behind the latest OLED developments. From my reading, OLED outperforms any LCD backlit panel by a country mile!!
I am finding this quite frustrating as I want to make the leap into B&O and eventually have a system throughout my home for both audio and visual.
The main crook is that B&O offer an amazing sound and music network/distribution package bolted to an outdated screen technology??
Is this the case?? Is the screen on an Avant going to be noticeably worse than an LG OLED??
If so....
One workaround that I was considering (not sure if this is available or feasible) would be to buy: -
Beosystem 4 - Linked to Beo transmitter 1?
LG 65" OLED
4 x Beolab 20 - Collected over the next 3-5 years.
Centre Speaker??? Lab 7.6??? IMHO looks a bit old and would be very bulky under any wall mounted OLED.
Any thoughts or ideas?
TIA

Perhaps you should wait until April to see the new TV sets that will be offered by B&O before taking a decision.

Jean
Doesn't the dynamic picture caption say it is over exposed?
I have never seen anything like that on my BV11.
From the report conclusion....
The picture quality of the Beovision 11 is convincing and places the TV up front in the LCD-TV field, where the older brother BeoVision 7 also sits. The Movie preset that has been added since the Beovision 10 gives the TV a boost in color accuracy and combined with the great black level and uniform backlight, the overall depth of the picture is very good. Among Edge LED-TV’s the Beovision 11 currently has the lead.Read more at http://flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1354451016#6V7EGCm1EBSAlFv0.99

Definitely wait and see what the new TVs from B&O have to offer. Maybe a big surprise with an OLED panel? If not, it'll no doubt be in the B&O range within the next year or so. But in reality, a hugely expensive product should be bang up to date with OLED technology. LCD does not look so good when viewed next to an OLED set. Either way, it's a HUGE amount of money to spend on something as silly as a TV, so I guess you really do want it to be bang up to date :)
Simonbeo: Bang & Olufsen St Pauls shut a while back?
True, That website and advert have gone too.
Chris Townsend:1.5 local dimming(actually Dynamic contrast)
That overexposed/ long exposure picture is meaningless..... someone at flatpanels just discovered that he could show some back/edge lighting if he left the camera shutter open long enough. What a pity if it has influenced potential customers not to purchase on the basis of something that can never be seen in reality on the TV.
It's very easily replicated in a dark room and when a bright object appears on the screen. I still see it regularly in our local dealer.
The difference between this and local dimming is from my years of personal experience, night and day. That image like the 11, is now around 3 years old.. Considering how panels are advancing so quickly, not exactly cutting edge technology for an £7,000 television.
This is a video by flatpanelshd of the 11.
Of course the object on the screen is only a mouse pointer, but you can imagine what the effect would be from an object 20 times its size, a candle maybe!

I've seen it..... and read the whole review. I simply haven't ever noticed any strange edge effects or artefacts etc etc on my BV11 when viewing TV, DVD's or any of the Smart apps, or the Apple TV............
Hi Jean,
Agree, I have been told that there are a few new TV's coming out in April and later this year???
Hopefully they'll be an OLED?
I've been told that the date of the replacement of the BV11 will be 10-16
