Coming from a BV7 MKIII to Avant 55" my self, is a huge leap forward - everything is way better than before!

For my use of tv watching, iTunes movies in 1080p and Netflix 1080p looks crisp and sharp.

Picture quality and black level etc. is a major kick from my old tv and the new BeoRemote One is a star born in your hand, trust me on that. The 3 "profile" for you choose what to do is very cool. Oh and "wake on LAN" with the Beo App gives you access to Avant as long you are connected to your wireless network, I use that feature every day when I wake up to turn the Netradio on, with one touch on the favorite profile...

I don't fancy 3D so, no comment on that issue.

If you have the money, this is a must buy tv from B&O. Go get it, before your neighbor Big Smile

Dear Mv7Mk3 thank you for opening this thread and I would like to answer to your headline: “The New Avant! 55 Are You Happy with the way it Performs?“

First of all mostly I do like my AVANT 55“. I did order it just after it was released. Before I did have a BeoVision 3-32 with Sat, Surround, a DVD player and a HDD1 recorder and all worked seamlessly together.

The quality of the picture of the new AVANT is outstanding. If you do watch iTunes or NETFLIX movies, especially CGI stuff like „Lord of the Rings“, I want to say the picture is hyper-realistic.

Sound performance is excellent. Even just listening music on that TV is fun.

The build quality corresponds to the expected B&O level.

For me the menus and the GUI are also easy to learn and to use.

Especially how to setup your speakers is outstanding good implemented. Also how to define your TV channels and mix it into groups from different sources like cable and sat is easy and a big leap forward with respect to my old TV set.

The BeoRemote One is also a nice device with one small issue. It is quit problematic to find your way in the dark TV room. There is not enough tactile distinction in between the different groups of functions. Here the Beo4 is still the best B&O remote ever which I am easily able to operate blind.

I am also very happy that it is possible to attach and partially to hide the devices linked to the TV as an Apple TV, a BluRay player, a HDD for recording and a switch so everything regarding Ethernet is hardwired. All the cabling was quite a challenge but in the end it does look neat now. So this is the first TV Set for me where it is possible to come very close to the look of B&O advertisement installations. I do mean the magic invisible B&O cables. Wink

But there are also some for me serious issues.

Annoying is the speed the TV set reacts on commands. It is slow; I mean very slow and if you are the impatient type do not go for the AVANT! This is due to the CPU performance, which is not state of the art and here is a lot of space for improvements. The weak CPU performance is seen while using the Smart TV functions. And here it would be beneficial if one could connect a Bluetooth keyboard to the AVANT.

The entire TV tuner implementation with relation to the two CI+ slots is substandard. It is extreme inflexible and limited. The AVANT does have two tuners and two CI+ slots but it is not able to run both tuners each on a different CI+ slot at the same time. Or even it is not possible to run two different CA Modules using different encryption. For the time being I do have to pull carefully the not used module so the other module is able to operate smoothly. The limitations are with respect to PIP, recording one channel and watching another program and running two different CA modules parallel. So it is needed to understand that more or less most of the TV channels here in Germany especially the private TV HD channels need a CA module. In approximately 90 % of all useful cases this does not work at all. So effectively all this functions which I loved so much in my old BeoVision 3 are not longer used, as they are impractical.

Basically I do know all this CI stuff is not a B&O specific problem, but here is a big gap for the users and the one company fills that gap will define the future of consuming broadcasted content (If there is any). And I know as a faithful long-time B&O customer that they could do far better than that.

I have reported this CI matter very detailed to B&O and got something like an answer but the problem itself is still pending to be resolved either by an whatever update or another TV.

So mostly I am happy with my AVANT 55”, but I could be much happier.

I traded in my Avant 55" against a BV12-65, which is wall-mounted. Best decision I've made and - universally - everyone agrees it's an upgrade (from the Avant). Picture quality even better in HD, colours richer due to the plasma, no panning issues etc.

Wow first of all haven't seen you on here for a while moxxey, second you got what i think is the best plasma on the market congrats!!!

I thought one of the things you didn't like with the 12 was how it rendered grass.

I bet it looks fantastic too.

It was never the TV for me, but I loved the look of it. Just image if they'd stuck with it and ended up making an OLED version on that stand.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Congratulations Moxxey! Lets have a Party !!!

Pictures please Big Smile

Many B&O dealers here have been lowering their prices on demo / floor sample BV12-65+Beosystem 4 to get rid of the old stock, one offered both the TV, Motorized Floor stand and the Beosystem 4 (no remote lol), for $12500US, along with a 3 year warranty. I would have seriously considered it if it weren't for that fact that I wanted to budget for a pair of L and R speakers along with the TV as well.

Very happy with the PQ considering its a 4K TV with non 4K sources.  Apple TV is sharp, Foxtel also great. Regular TV good too, but i watch regular TV through Foxtel so that's all good.

I watch mainly movies and TV shows.  I have ripped a fair few Blu Ray discs and instead of powering on my NAS, I just have them on a USB drive which is easy to plug in at the top of the TV.

I am glad that I went for the clamper solution from STB Brackets - for me this is a winner.  The money you spend on that solution is a better alternative than an additional cabinet.  It doesn't slow the motorised floor stand down.  I have 3 peripherals on the back: Foxtel, PS4 and Apple TV.

I love the stand and the way the speakers conceal and reveal for want of using an architectural term.  By having the television on a pole effectively makes the corner where I have the TV more elegant.  Another B&O TV wouldn't look as nice in this corner.

The my buttons are great and very easy for when i wake up in the morning to put on sunrise.  But i have found that after use, i would prefer it to be back lit and there is no record button!  I use the record button quite often and I don't want to press menu 8 to record something on foxtel.  For the life of me I haven't figured out if i can program a button to do that...

Controls on the BeoRemote are very quick, i haven't found it slow.  When they first installed it, it wouldn't recognise my foxtel .  The installers figured out that the strength of the IR cable is strong, so when placing over the IR of your device you put it half on and half off and that works, and it's been quick ever since.

I haven't used 3D yet and my TV wasn't delivered with any 3D glasses which i found odd.  I thought they would just come with... anyone else have this issue?

I don't really use spotify nor deezer yet - i just play music that I have purchased and have found that the Netradio function is not that great.  There are constant streaming issues which i think is down to the processor in the TV.  It is not my service provider nor is it my network.  The same radio stations are available under Apple TV and now i just use that for my netradio - no streaming issues and it has nice cover art.

The GUI is nice and neat and easy to understand. TV recognises NAS and USB drives very quickly.

I don't use any Smart TV apps.  I don't like browsing internet on a TV, it's easier using a computer.  I don't use FB on a TV either, it's easier using my computer.  I did have Skype on my Sony TV which I love.

Things that could be improved:

> BR could be back lit

> BR should have a record button, or the ability to assign a function like this to one of the MyButtons

> Improve Net Radio

> When I turn on the PS4, the TV should turn on automatically and switch to the right input so I don't have to fumble doing this

Other than that, I'm happy with the way it performs.

I'm very pleased with my Avant, ordered the same week it was released. The picture and sound are very good, and the motorised floor stand is true B&O magic. I was going for a wall mount, but when I saw the floor stand I changed my mind.

3D movies are great. The downside is I only have two pair of glasses. Got one pair with the TV (for not needing any help with installation), and bought the second pair for 133 $. Trying to find two more, but cheaper, so the whole family can watch a 3D movie together. I buy 3D movies, other movies do we stream via XBox360.

The smart TV is just crap, nothing to have.

I have AppleTV and also a HDD for recording. Took a while before it worked as it's not stated anywhere I needed two antenna cables in to TV.

For sentimental reason I've connected my old Nintendo64, using the special cable from B&O, but it's never used.

All equipment are hidden in an another room. The only visible part is a USB cable connected to XBox 360 (for Infinity, Skylanders etc). The kinect sensor is hidden in the top of the pole and placed on the top of the TV when in use.

I am very pleased with it. I can highly recommend it and if I ever change TV it willbe Avant 75''.
