Got my RX-2 out of storage hooked it up, and it doesn't play, if I cue the arm to the middle of the record it just seems limp and goes to the beginning of record, the anti skating is set correctly, any other ideas?

Thanks Dave

Did you check the cartridge, needle there, needle riding in the track, or is the cartridge housing touching the record.

Thats a good thing, is this needle touching the record when playing, or is the cartridge housing touching the record.

The needle is touching, when I touch the play button the arm moves over the record and drops down [needle on record] but then does not go anywhere, although I do hear some pops thru the speakers, Thank so much for your help.

Well I seem to have gotten the turntable to work, it was the anti skating on bottom,  The high end of the music is gone - Im guessing I need a new cartridge, this one is 20 years old. So now my question is where is best place to buy a Bang & Olufsen cartridge mmc 5?

Did you adjust the tracking force ? first adjust to "0" then set the force to 1.5. You can get your MMC5 repaired here

I have a chance to purchase a B&O 1700 and a B&O 2400, both owners claim cartridges are good, both are in good shape, both are listed at $125. I've searched the web trying to find the differences without luck.  Which turntable is a better deal at that price

I should also mention $199 for a new cartridge for my RX-2 turntable vs $125 for each of those other B&O turntables.

The BG 2400 should have a preamp build in (check in the product list), the BG 1700 not. The BG 1700 has normally a MMC 20 S cartridge, the BG 2400 normally has a MMC 20 EN, BG 2400 is known to have problem with the push button/swithches.

Repair of your MMC cartridge is cheaper, and all cartridges this age are prone to suspension giving up, if possible check the decks before buying.

One other advantage of a repair  by Axel is it would allow you to upgrade to a higher specification MMC cartridge  -  an MMC4 or even an MMC2.

Sorry, but I don't think the BG 2400 has preamp build in, as the Beomaster 2400 has RIAA.

Hmm - that must be something special for the US market, then... I have a Beomaster 2400-2 with RIAA - and a Beogram 2402 with no RIAA.

(Edit) And if you look at the specifications of the BG 2200, there's no RIAA. And it's mentioned that:

Beogram 2200/2400 were identical except that, when coupled to the Beomaster 2400, Beogram 2400 could also be operated by remote control.

So I guess the RIAA in the 2400 is simply a mistake by the writer.

My BG2400 does not have an inbuilt RIAA.  I have to use an external one depending on which amp I connect it to.  Confusing eh!

Unfortunately, our product guide tends to misinform a bit when it comes to the older audio stuff, lacking at best.

I am not sure about the US model Beogram 2400 but I never saw a RIAA in any of the sloping front 2200/2400/2202/2402 and
I don't recall seeing any info about a RIAA option for these models either.
