home control basic - MLGW
Home control without a expensive light/home control system:
This is my configuration at home and it is working for many weeks without faults.
Masterlink:
In every linkroom mast be a b&o device connected to the masterlink. You can find here a list. http://mlgw.bang-olufsen.dk/source/documents/MLGW%20product%20compatibility.doc
With listed software version (or newer), product can pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands from remote to MLGW. If your device is not able to do this or there is no software update than buy a second hand beolink active an a new software chip (min. sw 1.6) install this in your linkroom and program it to L-option 0.
MLGW or BLGW / Lintronic TT455-RT-238
Are linked via rs232. The MLGW send via customs Strings (<0100232132001--->) to the TT455-RT-238. The TT455-RT-238 converted this string to a ir command “key1” and send this to the light manager air. The ir send and receive-units a very strong, fast and without faults! (the TT455-RT-238 can also converted ir codes from the beo4 to a non b&o device. Take a look on the homepage from lintronic.
JB Media Light Manager AIR
A new very clever device! Take a look: http://cms.jbmedia.de
Is connected to the wifi and has external antennae. Very strong sending of 433 and 868MHz rf codes. A very smart software to build very easy complex light scenes. You can also program light scenes to depend on temperature, time or the position of the sun.
So you can program “key1” = switch on 50% lamp1 and 30% lamp2 and 0% lamp3; switch on the espresso machine and close the shades only if there is sun outside… and al this only with one command!
maybe you can control the light manager direct via custom strings from the mlgw. But unfortunately, all previous attempt brought no success. (contact me if you have a solution ;-)
Intertechno/CoCo/FS20:
One of the cheapest dimmer/switch, etc. (20 to 40 euro)
Led, 12v, shades, dimmer, 0-10v led, …..etc.
Control:
You can now control from every room the light, shades…. Your b&o of course with your beo4, beo5, remote one, iphone app beolink and with the beosound essence remote. Or buy a wall charging-station for the iphone or ipad and you have a touch monitor on the wall.

and here is the version with a beolink activ in option 0
Very interesting... I am trying to find a way to control Intertechno dimmers...
Is there a documentation on the TCP/IP protocol used by the JB Media box so it could be controlled via wifi?
Beoworld app with direct photo upload and emoticons.
The newly release LIN-433 from Lintronic can control Intertechno devices, so that could simplify the setup.

Hi phil
Yes, on the homepage there is some documentation. http://cms.jbmedia.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=154&Itemid=57&lang=en
and
http://cms.jbmedia.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=143&Itemid=57&lang=en
and here you find my trying:

but still no success.
PhilLondon:The newly release LIN-433 from Lintronic can control Intertechno devices, so that could simplify the setup.
hi phil!
I´ve seen this. I looks very interesting. But I have choose the lightmanager air for this reason:
Very strong sending (and in the future) receiving from 443 and 868 MHz rf signals; Small case and energy effective; easy programming over wifi; I use now the intertechno/coco dimmers in the whole flat. 8 rooms with different light scenes and shades. Controllable depend on temperature, time or the position of the sun. (before I use a old light manager in the b&o version and so I know the program interface very well)
But maybe the main reason was: the rs232 socket of the mlgw was still used for the lintronic tt445-238. (translate rs232 commands to ir, controlling scenes via the beovision cinema socket, controlling the projector via rs232)
Here a small summary of wall docking stations for iPhone/iPod touch:
You can mount it in every room in place of the light switch. So the iPhone has a fix place to charging. The beolink app runs 24/7 so you have always access to your light macros an your b&o system. (lockscreen disabled)
You can use old iPhone´s 4 and above: (only 30 pin connector)
http://www.busch-jaeger.de/de/produkte/produktloesungen/multimedia/busch-idock/
and if you want to use the new lightning connector there is a new dock from gira: (gira has also a 30 pin connector version)
http://www.gira.de/gebaeudetechnik/produkte/neuheiten/dockingstation.html
if you want to control the light direct you can also use your old light switch with or without the main voltage.
http://www.coco-technology.com or http://www.intertechno.at
coco AWMT-003 (without voltage)
coco AWMT-230 (with voltage)
b&o Essence Remote:
you can also control your b&o and your light with the essence remote (if your b&o can can pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands from remote to MLGW. If your device is not able to do this or there is no software update than buy a second hand beolink active an a new software chip (min. sw 1.6) install this in your linkroom and program it to L-option 0.)
here you can find a list of the light function commands if the essence remote is in the light mode:
http://beointegration.com/uploaded/BeoSound_Essence_Remote_IR_mapping.pdf
Hi phil!
The light manager AIR can be controlled via http commands. So if you type http://192.168.xx.xx/?key=1 or http://192.168.xx.xx/control?key=1 you can direct trigger key 1 from the light manager air.
If you want to control the light manager air direct from the MLGW via costum strings there are at this time no solution.
The ip and the port is deposited in the mlgw. The mlgw is connected in the system logs.
I try the below strings but no success if I release the macro:
?key=1
GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0A\0A
GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A
GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A
GET /control?key=1&cmd=off HTTP/1.1\0A\0A
and all strings starts with PUT
do you have a solution or a idea?
Have you tried the http://192.168.xx.xx/?key=1 and http://192.168.xx.xx/control?key=1 URLs from a browser? They work?
yes! both commands worked. the worked also with or without the port
http://192.168.xx.xx:80/control?key=1
So GET it is!
Try
or
GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0AHost: www.example.com\0D\0A
But for me I think there's an issue with sending HTTP queries from a BLGW. HTTP is a disconnected protocol, the server disconnect after each query. The BLGW however tries to keep the connection open, which creates a loop.
So if you try the above, have a look at the BLGW log to make sure it's not constantly trying to connect.
@mjmedlo
If you use the mlgw programming software on the ipad you can use some apple emoticons. So you can use the light bulp on the virtual buttons.
thank you for the support!
PhilLondon:GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0AHost: www.example.com\0D\0A
and which host address do i use?
PhilLondon:GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A
does not work.
in the mlgw system logs the light manager stable connect the mlgw. only disconnect and connect if i load the new configuration.
mjmedlo:Have you tried using an actual picture? I wonder if you could show the light on and off? And use that?
I wonder if you could show the light on and off? And use that?
an actual picture? on the mlgw you can only use text and apple emoticons as virtual buttons.
You need to look in your router what IP address is the Light Manager. Ideally you need to set a fixed IP address. That's the address you enter in System > Custom String > Host. The port is 80.

okay, i try http://192.168.xx.xx:80, http://192.168.xx.xx, 192.168.xx.xx:80 and 192.168.xx.xx as the host.
thats the fix ip and port of the light manager. but still no success.
thank you
beoandy:192.168.xx.xx
That's the address.
(not GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A) !!!
PhilLondon: GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A (not GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A) !!!
Actually with should work...
PhilLondon: PhilLondon: GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A (not GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A) !!! Actually with should work...
GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0AHost: 192.168.xx.xx\0D\0A
GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0AHost: 192.168.xx.xx\0D\0A
does not work. i think there is a other problem.
but after every custom string i see "Custom strings: JBMedia Air : CONNECT" in the activity monitor
okay the answer of my question to the beocare contact of the new beointegration homepage was not successful. "We do not support the JBMedia and have no knowledge of this home automation product. Thou the problem is not the MLGW."
I think I got it! You need an empty line to be sent at the end of the HTTP request. You need to double the last \0D\0A
Try GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A\0D\0A
Philippe
Phil!
Let me say that you are the hero of the day!
I think this IS the solution!!!
Now I can direct control the jb-media air with custom strings from the mlgw without the workaround over the lintronic TT455-RT-238.
A big thank you - for your support!

Okay, after some tests…
Yes GET /?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A\0D\0A is the solution.
But: if you want to fire commands at short intervals in a row to the lightmanager air (for dimm up a lamp for example) the light manager air hangs up an only a restart of the light manager is a solution. (sometimes you see “Custom strings: JBMedia Air : CONNECT” in the Activity monitor)
But for the nomal light pictures everything is working.
okay, after some test the best solution is: GET /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A\0D\0A
use the additional "control" has the effect that the lightmanager air is much more faster than without the "control" - and the last hour no system crash of the lightmanager air.
Thanks to Beoworld Member PhilLondon and the Team von JB-Media we have a solution for the MLGW to talk direct via custom Strings with the Lightmanger AIR. So you can control with the MLGW direct intertechno, coco or fs20 dimmer/switch.
In summary the adapted text of my first post:
Thanks to Beoworld Member PhilLondon and the Team von JB-Media we have a solution for the MLGW to talk direct via custom Strings with the Lightmanger AIR.
POST /control?key=1 HTTP/1.1\0D\0A\0D\0A
With this string the ligtmanager air activate the light scene 1. This string is tested on the MLGW!
Thanks for sharing. I couldn't find a manual for the Light Manager Air, either in English or even German. Do you have one?
PhilLondon: Thanks for sharing. I couldn't find a manual for the Light Manager Air, either in English or even German. Do you have one?
I have a printed one in german. I can scan it tomorrow in the office and send it to you.

According to the linked .doc-file the MLGW is pretty much USELESS for passing Light commands from a Beo 4 into my system???Devices connected to ML and the MLGW.- Beocenter 2, Beovision Avant 32, Beosound 5, Beolab 3500- Philips HUE Bridge on the same network as MLGW.I thought that those devices could be used to control my light EASILY with a Beo 4 and was told by a dealer, too, that the MLGW is neccessary for home automation.Does it mean that I have to place a Beolink active with upgraded software into any room, too?If yes, I must say that I don't understand the Benefit of the MLGW as the Tablet and Phone control ist just a gimmick for me. :(I'm thankful for any help in my setup.
TWG:According to the linked .doc-file the MLGW is pretty much USELESS for passing Light commands from a Beo 4 into my system???
It's not really to do with the MLGW itself, it is the older devices that do not pass the light command.
Your dealer should have checked that with you. But most dealers know nothing about the MLGW and just want to sell you the box. I am currently looking at a cheaper and smaller solution for receiving LIGHT commands in rooms with older device. Will keep you updated.
After calming down and reading again I seem to have at least 2 devices that I can use for Light commands:- Beosound 5
- Beolab 3500
correct? My Beosound 5 is in Slave Mode and not the Audiomaster. Will it still pass Light commands to the MLGW?And as I'm new to MLGW programming: How exactly do I have to program that think to switch a HUE light with a Beo 4 on/off? I have the HUE working with the software buttons of the Web panel but not with physical buttons on the Beo 4.And the Protocol/Monitor of the MLGW does not show any Beo 4 commands, only the HUE events with custom strings.Questions over questions, I know, but those things seem to be very interesting and convenient.

Did you create the custom strings for controlling Hue via MLGW from my earlier threads? After creating the Hue custom strings, you need to use the MACRO programming part of MLGW to create macros that use LIGHT or CONTROL B&O commands to trigger your Hue custom strings. For example: "LIGHT + 1" would trigger whatever custom string you have assigned when you press LIGHT and then the digit "1" on your Beo4, Beo5, or Beo6.
I'm concerned that your BeoSound 5 might not pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands unless it is in audio master mode. Only the more recent BeoLab 3500 speakers can pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands. However, the older BeoLab 3500 speakers can be updated by your B&O service technician.

Yes, I created the custom strings from your earlier threads and they work when I use a soft button on my phone or tablet. But no reaction from Beo 4.Here's a screenshot of my test programming:
The BeoLab 3500 has SW Version 3.3 and should work without problems according to the linked .doc-file.Maybe you'll see what I'm doing wrong!?

That looks like it should work! Here's a common mistake that I sometimes forget: Did you remember to press TEST and then SAVE to store the macro?
TWG-
As a bit of troubleshooting, you might try temporarily putting your BeoSound 5 into audio master mode (and temporarily removing the BeoCenter 2) just to check to see if it's a problem with your BeoLab 3500 and not your programming.
Also, did you follow the MLGW manual on adding your B&O devices as nodes?
Ok, removed Beocenter 2 and Beovision Avant 32 from ML Network. Beosound 5 set to Audiomaster, Option 1, Beolab 3500 Link-Option 6.I can listen to N.Music, skip tracks, adjust volume etc. with Beo 4 in the bedroom but Light does not work! :-(
I guess I added them all as nodes: Entered Product assignment mode on MLGW and then choosed local source on BC2, N.Music with the Beo 4 from the Beosound 5, CD with Beo 4 on the Beolab 3500 and V.Aux / TV on Beovision Avant with remote. Is that the correct way?
Strange behaviour:When the Avant is connected to ML and I switch it on with e.g. V.Aux it turns on and after a few seconds goes to standby again. Avant is in Video Option 1 as was the Beocenter 2.Error log in MLGW shows this message a few times: 2015-03-10 17:35:59 emerg server: WatchdogLoop: IcpOutputQueue was not signalled.
