I stumbled across another review of the avant it is in French and will require Google translate. The good thing about it though is the settings which the reviewer put up will help any owners get the best from there sets as he's shut off or reduced many of the options that cause more harm to the picture than good in my view.

Hi,

An interesting review - thanks for the link - I'll pass it on internally here in Struer.

But be careful to not believe everything you read. In a quick look, I can see that there are at least two errors in the section on the audio... I don't know anything about video, but maybe the reviewer was more careful about that.

Cheers

The only thing that prevent me from buying a new avant TV is the "Soap Opera effect"

Facel, every TV has that.

I have the Avant 55 and its easy to turn off and it stays off.

But sometimes I turn it on and I like it in some movies :-)

Regarding the audio side I find the avant to sound amazing and powerful on demos I've had of it. I do feel however that the sharpness is set very high and in conjunction with the noise reduction causes a lot of noise in the picture which I've seen.

when i had a demo of the v1 at home turning the overscan to off setting the output on my Bluray player to 1080p 24hz switching off the noise reduction and switching the sharpness to off, setting the picture to movie produced a picture quality of such clarity depth it really was unlike anything I've seen and that's just on the v1.

I could only imagine what it would look like on a bv11 or avant with those settings.

Yes ... that's why I do not buy a new One,   but Beovison are supposed to be different from others

It is normal  , elderly generally do not see any difference   Wink

It also begins with the wrong price because it's the price of the tv without a stand or bracket.

At 7.300 € you won't be abble to enjoy your tv a lot !

For what it's worth, it's not just Beovisions that have issues with some of the sharpness and judder control "features." Most sets look much better if you turn off all the processing that allegedly improves the image.

On my Panasonic, the THX certified movie mode has all of this off by default. I've experimented with turning some of the features on, horrible. I honestly can't understand why any let alone all of the manufacturers have this stuff and mostly have it turned on by default.

I have a couple of DVDs that have severe judder, and none of the processing options do a thing to improve it, so I'm still at a loss to figure out where they would work.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

I find all sorts of purple artefacts on the 7-55 as the processing tries to stitch fast moving images together. I've selected Game as the default setting and it's now much better.

This didn't work that well on the 11 where the picture is very harsh in game, but fantastic in movie.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Thing is though panasonic, philips, samsung and loewe have motion compensation where you can choose from say min to max which in short reduces the soap opera effect a great deal.

I find panasonics intelligent frame creation to be very good used on its minimum setting. My last tv which was the loewe individual slim frame had the best motion compensation I've seen so far, as in there was no blur judder or soap opera effect with movies once the motion compensation was set to the soft setting.

panasonic also have the 24hz smooth film setting which is an option you can select once you have set your bluray player to output 1080p.

I had a gt50 which was amazing but i noticed the after trailing which played havoc when things moved quickly across the screen.

@ Geoff Martin  (and everybody concerned)

=>  do you have any "technical" presenation about tthe benefits of the video system embedded inside the avant  ?

like  the press presentation you have achieved about audio which was really excellent !

=> could we get info about the 120 hz mode on the avant (is this for  60hz country only ? )

and what about the 24P true cinema mode implementation ??

 Thanks a lot
