G'day

OK, I went to our Richmond Store today to check out subwoofer options :

> Option 1, BL11 with Receiver 1 (silver)

> Option 2, BL19 (grey)

> Option 3, BP S8

My thoughts about each option are:

With the BL11, I am just in love with the style and design, however, I am concerned that for movies it may not be powerful enough.  I would want a wireless solution, so thought the Receiver 1 would be ideal.

With the BL19, I love the dodecahedron shape and that it is wireless, however, it may be a bit intrusive in the room if I install it next to the Avant.

With each option it's easily programmed by the Avant.

I like the 'cost effectiveness' of the BP S8 and could be "hidden" behind my Avant, but the shape is a bit too much behind the TV

After much consideration, I am planning to purchase a BL19 and being that it is wireless, I can install it elsewhere in the room.  It takes 3 weeks to arrive in Australia, so I am surprised that they don't have any stock.

The reason for my post, is that are there any BL19 customers?  What are your thoughts? Are you happy with it?

I wouldn't consider a BL2 as it's too old, big, and not that attractive (to me)

I watch mainly movies, and listen to some music through the Avant.

At the introduction of BL18, I was planning to exchange my 2005 BL8000 for a pair of those. Not that I don't like my BL8000 anymore, but just to 'modernise' and take advantages of the new speaker techniques the BL18 has.

To shorten a long story, I was a bit dissapointed and expected more from BL18 in comparison to my BL8000. But for the first time I felt enthusiasm for the new BL19. A thing I never felt with the old BL2. Together with my dealer we arranged a listening test (BL8000 + BL19) and it felt astonishing, I was listening to a new set of speakers.

I gives me now everyday a new dimension in listening to my music and movies.

Thanks Chris. I was also not as impressed with the BL18 as I thought. Maybe it's my choice of music.

But the dealer said the BL11 was not that great for movies - but it looks sooooo lovely

I've got the BL19.  I've found it looks lovely next to the Avant and really grabs everyones attention.

The sound is tight and responsive, a much needed addition to my BL18's, which can't hold their own in movies and even some music.

I'm big time into movies, mostly action, scifi, horror.  I find the sound from the 19 to be spot on.  The thing i love the most is there is little to no vibration due to the dual driver setup.  I find this means i can turn the bass up slightly higher than i would normally and not upset the neighbours.

For music, i'm into a broad mix from pop, dance, electro, classical and vocal.  I find the 19 works really well for all, although i do have the bass turned down slightly for music, as compared to movies.

Overall i couldn't be happier.  Thought i do agree with everyone on the 18's, i wish i'd gone for the 20's and then not even need a sub.

Hey Michael I think a beolab19 would be a great addition to your setup, and like you said having the ability to place it around your room makes it a very good option.

I think the bass from the beolab19 is rich deep and tight.

Why not put the money from the 19 and what you can get for your 8000's, and get a pair of pre owned 9's with that.

Less speakers, for even more bang. And all at the same buck as the 19/8000 combo.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

Hi, I think I have said in another thread you should go for the 19 if you were looking to do anything else. I have one and it is everything David King says. Not much more to add. Except my dealer has a 19 under the avant 55 (on floor stand) and I think it looks great! I can't fault it for sound and looks. Integrates perfectly with my V1 and 18's for both movies and music. I wouldn't be without it now!!

Thanks Markidee :-)

Chris T... I don't have 8000s and I don't have any space at the front of room for additional speakers.  I do love those Lab 9s, but now i have heard the 20s if I could fit those in, I would :-)

Dave King, thanks, your review helps me

I've got the lab2 lab9 and the S8

For the money the S8 is the best bargain.

Imo.

I've bought two as gift sets.

I'm in support of the S8. Especially if budget is a consideration.

The S8 as a sub is heads and shoulder louder and more boom than the 11

I'm sure the new sub 19 is louder. But it costs at least twice as much I think.

I do appreciate wireless capabilities but I think Michael mentioned putting this sub in the corner behind the television so wireless shouldn't matter.

The S8 is the same as the bl14 for a fraction of the price.

I use it in a bedroom with the satellites attached as a 3.1 system and it flat out thumps.

The 19 I'm sure is more potent but I guess it's hard for me to put the extra money in to the sub.

Michael.. Will you have other speakers connected to the panel as well?

I am very interested in this discussion. I have a couple of 12-3 as front speaker and a couple of 12-2 as rear speakers and I would like to add a bl 19.. But I absolutely need to test If first as I am worried it could be too much for my 5x4meter Living room... Big Smile

I use a BL2 with BL12.3s for music and TV and find it adds a lot. My room would be 5x4 meters also.

Get a used BeoLab 2. Hooking one up to a Beosystem 4 based system makes it really controlled.  Previously on my BS-3 based TV's, I found it a little overkill, since it really is still the big daddy - even versus the 19 today.  The sound system in the Avant really make the BL2 a perfect solution. Otherwise, you'll really need to look at some used BL9's or a new pair of BL20's as any form of step up from this.

If you have a BV11, V1 or more especially the Avant with its new ability to 'measure' the room, this won't be a problem.

I also think its the big daddy  too, but even used its still up there price wise.

I have ordered a BL19 in grey metallic.  It arrives in a months time.

Apparently there is no stock on hand.

I wonder what that means if anything with the recent discussion around B&O in search of a buyer.

Hi elephant

I did consider the white, but I think that for placement options the grey is more suitable.  Grey will blend in more with the colours of my house than the white - especially in the corner next to the Avant; and also between the sofa too.

I added a grey BL19 to my BV11-55 and BL1 speakers. Very happy with the results and made a big difference for music and films. It sits in between the BV11 and a BS9000, and it blends in very well.

BV11-55, BS9000, BL1, BL19, Transmitter 1, Beo4, Beocom 6000, BeoTalk1 200, Sennheiser HD600, McIntosh MHA100
