Good job B&O. Idea and Layout is very well done. Need to get some improvements like others say but still fresh, young and elegant.

KMA:

Recommending a 1000 px width (max) is dated these days. Over 80 percent of displays in use today have a resolution that is higher than the once-web-design-standard 1024x768, which kept website design 980 - 1000 px wide for years.

Not really, most workstations are still 1024px wide. Most users only have a 17" LCD max in many offices. It's a bit like having to support Internet Explorer 7. Sadly most companies still only support Internet Explorer and, sadly, v7. Indeed, BT, would you believe it, only allow Internet Explorer 6 for their remote workers and you can't install your own software on your laptop.

1000px is generally the norm. Maybe "dated" but sadly many businesses do not upgrade as quickly as home users and most browsing is still done during the day, from work.

Anyway, they're not going to re-size it now, so I guess it's fairly irrelevant!

The new B&O website has a semi-fluid layout, and it perfectly adapts itself when viewed at 1000px. The photos are cropped on the side but the text is re-laid out.

I noticed that Peter picked up a typo!  Good job!   I found this a bit odd too.  (I used to work as a proofreader):

Since 1925, Bang & Olufsen has experienced in the art of sound transmission

It's a bit irrelevant what the monitor size (or more correctly, screen resolution) is. Mine is 1920x1080 now, but I never use the browser maximized to the entire screen. Despite what the website designers would like, most of us aren't visiting a site to get some "experience", we want to see pictures of products and find information on them - the more capable users might even know how to keep another information window / program open on the side at the same time... Also, you can't ignore mobile users any more, and no, they don't need or want a separate mobile version, if the general layout fits.

A good part of modern web sites are laid out to fit a 960 px wide grid, meaning that they will fit nicely on a 1024 wide display including the browser window decorations - the new site seems to flow nicely above that, but I guess those stuck with 1024 or less will be burdened with a horizontal scroll bar. Not sure if it's worth it for a couple dozen of pixels.

I like the general feel of the new site. Most stuff is awfully large though, and often I keep wondering where the actual information is, because it is not always obvious that you need to / can scroll down (perhaps an unfortunate coincidence with my vertical window size).

Good as a visual experience - certainly better than the old site - but it seems harder to find facts. Seems like they tested the new visual style on the BV10 site (and the short form brochure I got a while ago), and I like the more cozy feel in the setups. The old clinical interiors were getting to look a bit 00's and lifeless to me...

Not sure how to describe it but everything just seems so big! - I kept feeling I somehow wanted to sit further away from the screen! It also seemed to require a lot of scrolling.

Maybe it'll seem to become less "in yer face" with more familiarity.

They should really keep it on bang-olufsen, it is so fun to read and a very good guide for us owners. I very often go there to download pdfs and learn about new things.

Now I like the design better than yesterday, it is better when the server works as it seems to do today =) And they have been adjusting some spelling misstakes. "Dull 5.1 surround" on the V1 page was the funniest one :).

Unfortunately a thunderstorm is holding me of of my bike.

I still like the new website a lot. I am currently on my MacBook Air 13" and under Heritage the text is not finished. It looks like the design of the page is not correct.

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/the-company/heritage

Edit: back from new www.bang-olufsen.com

At

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/en/sound/loudspeakers/beolab-11

you can see all the colors the BL11 is available but there is no name of the color. That might be the same for all products but at least for the BL11 you have Silver, shining silver, white which all look more or less the same on my screen. One might consider mention the colors name.

@ Lee, you are absolutely right and I did not expect it either but with a second though one has to realize that Bang & Olufsen "lovers" ( I do not like the word fan at all ) are into details. ;-)

Only now been able to get access to the site, been down most off the day with "Server Unavailable" - at least in Germany..

Initial comment is similar to a few others, everything on the site just looks a little too large, which means you do need to scroll a lot to get down to the actual information.

Also the links to Local Stores does not work. Click on "FIND STORE" then click on any B&O icon on the map (default is Denmark) the link will say something like:

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/lyngby

but when selected returns a 404 page not found.

In general I like the new site.

BeoVision 7-40, BeoLab 9/10/6000, BeoCom 6000, Beo4, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound 2/6,

I miss a section for Multiroom features for both audio and video.

I fear the next gen beonet is not goong to happen (multiroon audio and video distribution), and by the look of it new product laks ML.  I recently asked B&O customer service about the roumered converter between ML and beonet and they told me it was cancelled.....

For me the site looks not too bad, but quite a few features are still missing:

- language support other than english

- phone sector

- better accessablity of the site by smartphones or iPod touch (It works, but with a very good deal of scrolling)

My verdict will follow later when the site is updated and polished a little bit more (consistency of typefaces, correct size of elements)

A lot of teething problems with the new bang-olufsen.com website.

Local store site links seem to have been lost. No links for ex demo equipment. Poor map functionality.

A lot of products have gone (presumably discontinued...... but who knows..........  All the phones and CD/ DVD equipment seems to have gone.

New online store for a range of smaller units inc BS8 with free delivery and clear pricing..... so they must be thinking that this will not adversely affect the physical stores.

Right now I am enjoying todays prize draw but I was glancing to http://store.beoplay.com/store/bangoleu/de_DE/DisplayHomePage

Which is the german beoplay store.

Guys there is some work to be done! Many product descriptions are still in English. I do not care but the website is not consistent.

On every page there is a section on connectivity which has a video showing the multi-room functionality. The term BeoLink is used and the MLGW is mentioned. Along with the Beo4 and Beo6 the iPhone App is demonstrated.

Looking at the jobs advertised in the careers section, it appears the emphasis is on the automotive side of the business.

The "software developer for digital video platforms" sounds promising though.

Cancelling the converter shouldn't be a problem if a revised MLGW supplies the same functionality.

The main problem with the site is that it is presumably not finished.  Quality control should be the main focus for Bang & Olufsen and it didn't happen here.  Usually when a company is launching new products and canceling other products, they have a complete website.  The web is part of the marketing campaign.  Consider there are customers new to the brand trying to figure out the various products and trying to decide what goes together.  There is not a cohesive message.  The dealer locator is very poor.

I dislike being a beta tester for a website and any software from Bang & Olufsen.  I am not looking to buy anything now but maybe in a year.  I get the feeling B&O may not exist like it is in a year.

I agree with Evan.  The automotive products are well done and that's probably is the future.  I am sure there will be no Beoplay for BMW and others.

From the website i'm confused whether the BeoSound 8 will be in current production. It seems really bad having the BS8 on it sporting Bang & Olufsen and then A8 Airplay sporting B&O.  My best friend who is new to B&O asked me about this and was confused with two names for a product that looked very similar!  I know what he means, bit unprofessional really!

My dealer is confused, too. He was told they would both continue (at the two very difference price points), then told only the A8 would continue, now he says that both will continue until the existing Beosound 8 runs out of stock, or tat least for the foreseeable future.

Does seem to be a very confusing mixed message.

Yes totally agree Moxxey. Same looking design icon with 2 different brands - very indifferent.

Ive noticed that audio side to my iPhone 4S is improved yet again, compared to last years iPod Nano & the iPod & iPhone before that! Clear, more punchy & louder!

Oh and a very large image of an early version of the Beo4 (SAT V-Tape A-Tape) in the connectivity section of Picture

Out of the website titled "How to become a hacker"

But just having a home page isn't anywhere near good enough to make you a hacker. The Web is full of home pages. Most of them are pointless, zero-content sludge — very snazzy-looking sludge, mind you, but sludge all the same.

To be worthwhile, your page must have content — it must be interesting and/or useful to other hackers.

I recommend to add some content about every B&O product.
