Hi guys,
I've just received a BM8000 sent all the way from Denmark. It was tested and serviced before it was sent, and the case etc look fine, but it won't power up. It seems completely dead. The only life I can get out of it is you can hear a relay click when you unplug the power but that's it...
Any Ideas?
Lee
If the Beomaster was working before shipment then it is likely a loose connection problem. As you know, that is one of the heaviest pieces of equipment made. It took me several iterations to get my Beomaster 8000 where it was truly reliable. The majority of issues I had were connections. It is easy for connectors to come loose or break (at the board solder joint) in that beast. It is a good idea to re-solder all of the board connection points for the connectors.

On further testing it seems that it works when I connect the beogram to the BM8000 and press play. Although I only get sound from one side, strangely if I select mono I get sound from both speakers... None of the buttons on the BM work and neither do the screens...
I've connected up the IR code converter and the Beomaster appears to accept IR signals.. when I press Phono on the Beo4 the relays click on the Beomaster and the Beogram starts, I just listened to a single through headphones and it sounds all right in mono. It only works on one side when I switch it to stereo though. The displays are completely blank, not even a standby light and all the buttons on the BM are un-responsive including all the ones under the programming lid, all except for the mono/stereo switch and the volume control seems to work too...
I connected an aerial and the radio appears to work too and it works in stereo!! If I play it over the headphones it works fine, but if I connect speakers it plays for a few seconds and then I hear a click and the speakers stop playing... I could cry :-( my new toy and its not working
Sorry to here this, mine stayed in service position for over a months whilst I ironed out all it's little issues, well worth the effort, it gives me so much pleasure every single day,
definitely hard wire the 2 tuner boards and display and microprocessor boards and check the connectors below board 9
you said it was serviced before sent, do you know what was done?

Thing is anyone can claim it's been serviced, some pictures inside will be helpful , If it's been serviced I'd expect at the very least new trimmers and caps on pcbs 5 , right and left amplifiers
Just a further update. If I press and hold in the < and > balance buttons and press the FM and Volume store buttons at the same time (holding 4 keys) I get a number on the display at the top right and this number can be changed with the tuner dial from 0-9....
I'm waiting for Soren to get back to me from Radio & TV Eksperten (the place I got it from) before I open her up...
I am sorry to tell you Lee but this is the second time I hear about Radio og Tvexperten and a BM8000 with problems.
I am not sure who does service for them but an 8000 is to troublesome for them to handle. When and if the faults starts coming they are not that likely to go further in doing service again within the price.
Good to hear the code converter does work.
Its ALIVE!!!! turns out it was the connector between the power supply board and the CPU board...
Problem I now have is different. the amp will play for a few seconds and then fades out to nothing. All the buttons continue to work and the lights etc but the sound is gone. If I unplug it and plug it back in the sound will be restored for a few seconds and then cuts out again.
It sounds like you got inside ,please check the amplifier boards have been serviced before you start using it, a picture of board 5 will confirm, It drove me mad not using mine for a couple weeks while I waited for caps and trimmers but I'm glad I did as they really needed doing
when it's sorted it is a real joy to use .
Here you go Jason..
It now starts up fine, all the LEDs work, and all the buttons. If I tune a radio station it plays fine for about 15 seconds, then I hear a light pop through the headphones and the right channel goes quiet followed by the left channel fading to nothing, as the left channel fades the signal meter dances up and down and the MPX light flickers....
I hope you get it sorted Lee - nothing more aggrevating than a psychotic beo.
Thanks Ricardo... me too :-D maybe I should give it some counselling or some Valium ;-)

nah.. I was thinking along the lines of spraying it down with WD and then giving it a half dozen smacks with a hammer.
That's a good sign, board 5 has new caps and trimmers, don't know why they didn't change the big gold caps on the power supply board below
bear in mind I have only overhauled one of these beasts and although successful I had to fall back on some beoworld members who are far more qualified than me on these bm8000s
i feel your pain
I'm glad that the caps and trimmers seem to have been changed. I disconnected the right side amplfier and it stays on for longer, although when I increase the volume through the headphones one side is louder than the other and the difference changes as the volume is adjusted...
Check the idle current and DC offset on both amplifier sections.Check also the condition and quality of the (somewhat odd looking) cap job on the amplifiers and thesolder joints of particularly the driver transistors.

Lee:Can any of my Danish speaking friends help me? I'm really struggling to have a meaningful conversation with Søren at TV & radio Eksperten about this beomaster that I purchased from him. He seems to be making a claim against the courier company but I don't understand what I should do. I believed that under the sales of goods act then the responsibility lies with the seller not the postal company. Lee
Hopefully someone can. I expect as he feels it was OK when he shipped it, if the evidence appears to be that the shippers dropped it, the seller isn't responsible for that and so he will claim from their insurance cover. Whilst the shipper has it, they are responsible for it. They damaged it so they need to sort it out. The seller cannot be responsible for the shippers incompetence/lack of care. These are tricky things to sort out - I know from experience.
If he shipped it broken then he is at fault but that's not likely. Consumer law is a nightmare. It's meant to protect us but with laws being different all over the place they are sometimes difficult to navigate and resolve.
Keep it as friendly as possible with him and hopefully a resolution can be found.
Dave.
That sounds fair enough. Normally people are sensible and reasonable about these kind of things - sounds like he isn't. That's what happened to me with a pair of Beovox 120.2 speakers that were damaged by the shippers. I was refunded by the seller - told to keep the speakers and he claimed from the shippers insurance (probably inflated a a bit!). Your seller shouldn't leave you high and dry like this.
I wish you luck.
I take it you didn't get any warranty which is a shame as especially with the older equipment you need it unless your prepared to service it yourself or factor in the cost of finding someone else to.
Either way from the sounds of this you will need to find someone to look at it for you, if your taking it to B&o they will most likely tell you there are no parts avalible and say it can't be fixed , don't fall for that old story, find someone who can work on these wonderful machines at component level
ive been watching this thread as I do really feel for you probably choosing to buy from someone like that so you wouldn't end up in the position
regards Jason
Have you done what Martin suggested?
Glad to hear its in good hands😅
I used it as a happy sigh of relief , not sure if that is what it's supposed to be though
