I have Beosound 5 and control it with Beo 6 and Creation 5, I'm very happy with this system. Why should I change to the Moment? Any thoughts??

Beovision 7-55" 3D, Beosound 5, Beolab 9, Beolab 8000, Beovision 6, Beo 6, Beoremote one, H8, H2.

I'm in the same situation as you. The two-way control of the BeoSound 5 using the Beo6 and MLGW BeoLink app is very nice. It doesn't appear that there is similar support for the Moment with the Beo6. Also, we already have multi-room support for the BeoSound 5 that is not yet available for the Moment.

And there is no MOTS, which I like a lot.

Then you miss the Moodwheel, the perfect integration of Deezer high quality music with your own collection. The capability to play high resolution music. Integration of endless numbers of playlists. No limited space for your large collection of music that exceeds 1Tb. The screen that you can take with you around the house. Etc...

The Beosound 5 was and still is a very fine machine but nailed to an old platform, and its limit is there. The new Moment has a lot of potential and we are only at the beginning. I think there are still surprises to come.

Welcome to a new era, welcome Moment!

I've learned not to count on promises from B&O until they actually happen. Right now, we don't have multi-room support for the Moment and we still don't know exactly how well this will integrate with existing MasterLink for multiroom support. We don't have Deezer in the U.S. yet. I've never been worried about the 1 TB limitation. I like Spotify with the BeoSound 5. It would be nice if B&O added features on the Beo6 and the BeoLink App similar to those for the BeoSound 5. However, I doubt we'll see any new developments for the Beo6. It's a shame. The Beo6 was a great remote when properly configured.

MOTS is my Moodwheel, I select a song I like in the mood I'm in, MOTS does the rest. Deezer I can stream from my Mac.

You can't say anything against that!

At least I would not!

If you - at some point - need/want  some of the new features (see yourself missing them) more than you like your current setup, you will know what to do Big Smile

I guess the BS Moment is not made to make people with a BS5/BS9000/MasterLink instantly change to the newer BeoSound.

It is made for those with preferences like those, that are described above - for people, who already have a BV with NL Support and for those, who are about to take the step to a NL-based multiroom setup.

Or maybe also for those, who want/need a modern filebased/streamingbased audiosystem including netradio with a set of BL loudspeakers.

Am I totally off base in saying that I'd love for B&O to release a Beosound 5 Encore which is NL capable. Basically a Beosound 5 without the need for a Beomaster 5 -- Basically a Beosound Moment (without the moodwheel), but using the Beosound 5 interface and looks. I can't be the only one.

Sal-

I must respectfully disagree with you. The BeoSound 5 Encore was one of the biggest follies in B&O history. With the Encore, B&O stripped the proper BeoSound 5 down into a bare-bones version that LOOKED just like the original BeoSound 5 in order to get a more attractive price point. With the Encore, you lose many of the great features of the original BeoSound 5 -- such as 2-way Beo6 and BeoLink App control, connection of an optional Beogram turntable, multi-room distribution and control, and Spotify. The Encore served only to really confuse buyers. I'm glad to see it now removed from the product portfolio. With the original BeoMaster5/BeoSound 5 you can still use an NAS other than the BeoMaster 5 to store your music files. The BeoMaster 5 serves as a source for all of the connections and can be hidden away -- much like the BeoCenter 2 socket unit.

I didn't know there was more lacking to the encore than the connectivity and function... I just thought it was a standalone Beosound 5. I guess I was wrong. I guess what I meant was to have a Beosound 5 head unit... which serves as the "sound heart" as well (like the Moment). See, you're right, I was indeed confused about the Encore.

I have now sold my BS5/BM5 for the new Moment. And it's connected to my ML. In the beginning i felt that i was missing something with the Moment, but after some use i really start to like the use of it. Still it's something that is not working 100% in the software, but i know there is a update on it's way that is going to do some nice changes.

I really miss the look of the BS5, it's more BO stylish  Smile

What software is the moment based on

I loved the look, feel and function of the encore. It wasn't confusing for me. It's a music controller connecting to your own NAS. simple.

The thing that let it down was constant restarts or not starting or losing power huge wake up time and it was based on Linux ? Or was it an early windows

If moment is based on the same platform i would never buy one as much as I love the look.

Now that you've had it for a month can you name your top three likes and top three dislikes (or things you'd like to see changed)?

Hi Normann, will the moment respond to N-music and N-radio throw the ML system? Are you able to assign different sources and playlists at the Moment to the hard buttons on Beo4?

Same here, now running smoothly and flawless since I installed a fixed network connection. Not the fault of the Moment, having a lot of traffic on my wireless, it happens that the Moment when starting up did not found quickly my V1 television and keep searching. Now planning to install a second dedicated network for my B&O once the Multiroom arrives.

I was at first install a little sceptical about it, now I'm more loving it every day. Still adding albums after tagging the audio files with Yate, they appear on the screen within a minute.

Well done Chris. I used a fixed network with my encore. The wireless wasn't even worth it.

If I was using a Moment to play some Beolab 5's, I'd really want to know why it doesn't come with the same quality of download service....

http://www.whathifi.com/news/deezer-elite-cd-quality-streaming-now-available-exclusively-sonos

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.

I'm sure that CD-quality service for other platforms will enter soon, including for the Moment, if it comes I just hope B&O gives us the opportunity to be able to choose between Deezer Premium or Elite on the Moment.

Another question I'm asking myself, will it be really worth the extra fee. You can buy a nice album every month for that extra money you spend on Deezer Elite. As a collector I think to stay with Deezer Premium, saves me the money.12 months Elite = 12 new Albums I miss to nail on my HDD.

Keep your collection going then,  and enjoy the Premium. I still believe Elite should be the standard service.

Definitely, Deezer Elite should come a standard. Yes - thumbs up

Apart from the fact, that Deezer Elite is not 'High Resolution' - it is 'plain standart ( = CD/redbook) resolution' - I agree with you, that it should come as a standart Smile
