spotify connect, airplay vs dlna, deezer
What do you think?
will the beosound essence be updated soon (beosound essence mark II) ?
Michael, I think that the cd player has just become the same as the vinyl player has been for many years. It is something of the past that mainly gives you a different experience of your music.
With the audio quality of the streaming services nowadays, plus the selection, do you really have a need for a cd player anymore?
I still use mine some days, but even my vinyl player is getting less and less use.
"You think we can slap some oak on this thing?"
Both have a line-in connection.
Why not use that for the (occasional) use of a CD-player.
They even have line-sense - just start the playback on the CD-player to hear the music.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
leosgonewild:With the audio quality of the streaming services nowadays, plus the selection, do you really have a need for a cd player anymore?
I tend to think of audio quality as the weak link in a streaming service, not to mention irritating drop outs. Both of which are non-issues with a CD player. My CD player is a necessity.
Beo4 'til I die!
Yesterday I was at a demonstration of some new speakers from the danish company DALI in a (non-B&O) hifi-shop (HiFi-klubben) ---- just to be updated on, what is going on in the 'hifi-world' today.
They had one single CD player in the shop - one (a Cambridge Audio), that they had borrowed from a neighour-shop, because of a costumer, who wanted to hear it.
The owner told me, that they don't sell CD player's any more - people simply don't ask for them.
Every one wants to stream from streaming services and/or from their own local file collection.
That is the situation in Denmark - might be different in other parts of the world.

Yes. Streaming: 320.000Bit/sCD Audio: 1.411.200Bit/s
Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
Streaming Tidal HiFi (or as named in Denmark WiMP HiFi) is common here amongst people, who care for audio quality.
I often find myself picking an album, that I already have as a CD (or ripped to my NAS) from WiMP HiFi....because it is much easier.
Imo - the way to go!
Deezer better make their hifi version available to everyone.
That said - I'll keep my CD player in my setup.
But if I had to start all over again, I wouldn't think of buying one (just in case: the Bluray player handles CD's as well).
No wonder, that B&O has taken the streaming route.
After all they are producing gear for the future - not for the past
Earlier today, QObuz just announced a hi-res 24bit streaming service...

mbee: Earlier today, QObuz just announced a hi-res 24bit streaming service...
Could you please provide a link to that announcement?
If you go to the Qobuz site, you won't find anything else than the standart definition streaming service called: 'Unlimited streaming in True CD quality (FLAC 16-Bit/44.1kHz)'.
Same price as Tidal/WiMP HiFi.
Link, or it didn´t happen.

Sorry, I have to ask you to read what you wrote:
"Audio quality of streaming is good but some times you may be in a place with no reception."
I do think the times you are in an area with no reception are times that you don´t have the CD-player with you. At home (where you are doing your streaming), you probably have a decent wifi.
I have my Beogram CD5500, and I loooove it. Have no plans to get rid of it.
My friends kid that is 8 years old saw my CD´s and LP´s, and when I told her how they worked she just laughed. "That sounds much more difficult than Spotify".
We are getting old
It was only a french press event for the moment, but you can check all french tech websites : they are all announcing the hi res streaming (for instance this one : http://www.clubic.com/telecharger/logiciel-musique-et-streaming/actualite-757683-qobuz-streaming-hires-refonte-applications-finance.html )
Other news of the day is the opening of Qobuz in a lot of new countries this summer... Including denmark, which may change something in B&O's mind. Here is the country list :
DenmarkNorway
Finland
Sweden
Italy
Spain
Greece
Portugal
Poland
Hi mbee,
my french is far from perfect, but I managed to understand, what was meant.
So thanks for the link.
Making a 24 bit (whatever kHz) streaming service is very trendy - all the 'highend-disciples' are yearning for 'highres music' and are willing to pay more for it.
Today they pay more for 'highres' downloads, and they certainly will be willing to pay more for a 'highres' streaming service.
Qobuz want to stay in business - of course. It is a tough game! The new and higher '24 bits/highres' subscription fees will be a nice extra source of income.
The bitter thruth - however - is, that 99% of the music, that is available today, is at most 16/44.1 (CD) quality. All streaming services (including Qobuz) get their stuff from the same sources - and these can't provide any (or only very few) real 24 bit files. When they do - be sure that most of them are upconverted somewhere down the road.
I - for my part - am not willing to pay anything more than, what I will have to pay for the regular CD quality streaming (that is what I do now with WiMP HiFi). And I am also not wiilling to sacrifice more bandwith, than needed for a 16/44.1 stream - for literaly nothing but 'empty bits'!
Nice, though that Qobuz is coming to Denmark (and other countries).
But even with more competitors in the market, the subscribtion prices probably will stay as they are now.
Personally I'd be much more interested in a general Deezer Elite launch - or in a 16/44.1 FLAC version of Spotify.

For that reason you can download/synchronize spotify music to your device and use it offline. I use that when driving in foreign country's with high 4G data roaming cost.
BeoVision 11-55, BeoLab 8000, BeoRemote One BT, AppleTV 4, 2x BeoPlay A2, BeoPlay A1

Raeuber:You have also consider the following: - Some artists are not available with streaming services
elephant:I never picked you as a Taylor Swift fan The Essence of B&O is discretion in design and life

leosgonewild:That is the best burn I have seen on this site ever!
edit, wrong link:

elephant:Not sure what that kind of "burn" is however I hope Raeuber took it as it was meant: An attempt at humour The Essence of B&O is discretion in design and life
Raeuber:Yes, I took it this way, although I don't know 'Taylor Swift' (probably a teenie star).
Anyone know if the Essence Mk1 will ever get an update to allow it to join to a NL tv, to allow it to use the speakers attached to the tv?
(A dealer said this was coming but would not be the first time a dealer had lied after future updates!)
